Well, thats what my new computer gives when I boot it up :hmph:

It was worse, it'd start loading the OS (Windows 2000 Pro) and gave me an error that my HD had been corrupted. I ran from a Windows 95 Startup disk, and it said I needed to partition my drives, so I did. Problem solved I thought. Now I get that error.

I can give exact specs if you want :)

either your hard drive has gone bust or it is not compatitble with your mother board. I'v got the exact same problem with my old computer.

I would advise buying a new harddrive.

Thats not an option tbh, it's got 3 years of school work on it, my mod :/ loads of things I can't get back...

Is it a old drive that you just put in and then it dont work? Some are incompatible between computers... Example: Had a 20gb WD in my 700mhzer, moved it to my 2400+, no go. Refused to detect the drive at all. (this is just an example... mine actually does work if you tune the drive cable with a pair of pliers :p)

If you have enough drives, I suggest trying to run it as secondary, see if you at least can transfer some data off it.

(edit: Maybe I should read other posts, even with these few I fail, hehe. Oh well)

Mine wouldn't find its drive atall until I installed an OS on another drive then formatting (now it found it) the other drive, swapped thme around then installed the OS onto the new drive (after partitioning it and setting the active partition) Seemed to find it then.

If its got win2k or something on it, it'll act like its corrupt and not run and usually involves a reinstall completely otherwise it doesn't seem to know what its doing.. Gone are the days of Win95 being perfectly happy being moved onto different machines. Win2k just can't handle it without a full reinstall (seems just reinstalling over the top doesn't always guarentee success btw)

The drive itself came out of my AMD Athelon XP 1800+... it's a 40gb HD, it's only about a year old ;( (the schoolwork was transferred from an older computer)

;(

Oh and apparantly win95a/win95b will always screw up installing a drive on a newer machine. I'm forced to install win98 first otherwise I get I think VXD errors or something.. whatever it is it refuses point blank to run until it has atleast win98 installed

I'd setup a win98 startup disk if I were you, see if that helps.. you can DL images of specially setup and more useful versions on the net, google for win98 startup disk image. Should find something.

I'm on a Windows 98 machine atm :)

By the way, I think I know the command to fix it. FIXMBR (Fix master boot record)
I've fixed the bootsector, now it is time to FIXMBR

Wish me luck!

If you have repartitioned it then you have practically lost the information already. You might have to get a file recovery program to get your work back.

I'm going to have to pay a professional to fix it. Why isn't my CD drive being detected though?

When I take my old 20 Gig IBM my new 2500 mhz p4 computer freezes after a little while and keeps on so untill i reinstall... It took me all of December and like 5-7 reinstalls to be sure that was the problem... I dont get it cuz it works fine on my old 450 mhz p3 and the drivers etc. havent changed that much, if at all... Im running NTFS on both PCs?.. hmmmmmmmmmm............?

You might try installing linux on another drive, and using the ntfs module to read everything you can off the dodgy one.
