Iced_Eagle of the Eternal Silence 2 mod has sent his usual weekly update, and what a big update it is.[br]
[br]
First of all they have some debut media from their modeller, zinge, who has been hard at work on this model for the last month. Looks to me like it was worth the wait:[br]
[br]Secondly the guys are also reporting that FPSCentral have done a special preview of the mod including an interview with MadMech which you can find by clicking here. Here's a snip:
Q: What was the reason you chose Half Life 2 as the platform?[br]
[br]
A: The Source engine is simply the best one around right now. It has no limitations regarding inside or outside fighting, it provides us with a great netcode base and also has cutting edge visual features like shaders. We will be able to make the game we have always dreamed of, the way it was meant to be.
Now, if that wasn't enough there's yet another interview, this time with X-Ray, over at Halflife2-mods.net which you can find here. Here's a snip:
I read that the player has the choice between several battle positions. Can you tell us more about that?[br]
[br]
Our mod is essentially attempting to merge three genres. During gameplay, the player will be able to focus on one of these genres in order to sway his team’s chances of winning. A player can be a simple infantryman, fighting the battle inside of the capital ships with a first person view. They can also be a pilot, fighting for control in the vacuum of space. Lastly, they can be the captain, overseeing the battle with an RTS-style perspective. Each position will be invaluable in winning the game.

If that's whet your apetite enough then go and visit the guys over at www.eternal-silence.net and maybe even join in on their new CS:Source server!

These guys are sooooo fake! someone made a thread about it on the NS forums with some concept art and it looks SO much like NS, and there's an RTS mode in this game.. no doubt, these guys copy from NS.

sorry for the stupid question, but what are you refering to when you say NS?

NS= natural selection
it was IMO the second best mod for HL1. I heard they have no plans for making it again on source so why not have a wannabe mod? maybe it will be better
who knows?

was the first eternal silance any good?

It only got up to alpha 0.1, it was released June of 2003.... Unfortunately, the mod got shut down sortly after (reason being the game crashed even though there was tons of warning that it was an alpha version). And then work began on what is now ES2, new art, new design, same fun

About the copying NS.... Read the thread a little more, we used it for concepts, aka art, NOT to be used in a playable build :) That's why we have many talented artists! If you still don't believe that, well the NS textures are like 128x128 and aren't good enough for the Source engine. Oh and please read the design document before accusing us of anything. We don't have resources, no aliens, we don't build stuff, you actually go out and space and fight, and you can board enemy vessels in real-time... So please make sure you get the facts straight :)

Iced_Eagle, are you still using the same design document that you've had posted for awhile? I can't help but think that it's a little on the small side for a mod that's attempting to do something new.

That is the public one, our internal one is 35 pages long at 12 sized font. This doesn't include details on specific things (We have a document all on Capital Ships for instance, and a basic document on balance)

We have more than enough materials :)
