Eternal Silence is an ambitious modification of the Source engine to create what sounds like a Rogue Squadron game. The ES 2 team describe the features of their mod like this:
  • Large scale battle between Capital Warships with Open-Ended game play, allowing multiple outcomes.
  • Fast and Furious dogfights between Fighters in the air. Protect your fellow bombers as you escort them to deliver a powerful payload against the enemy’s warship.
  • Strategic planning of critical strikes. Issue orders to your wingmen and bring down the enemy’s critical systems with your heavy bombers.
  • Stealth. Infiltrate your enemy and commence special operations from within, allowing the possibility of boarding the ship without requiring brute force.
  • Action-Packed ground battles. Seize decks of your enemy’s ship, controlling or disabling their power, navigations, weapons, etc. Fight off the enemy and work as a team, fulfilling the role of one of many classes with an array of unique weapons at your disposal.
  • Decision making. Control almost every aspect of the ongoing battle as your ship’s Captain. Indirectly control defensive and offensive systems, waves of fighters and bombers, and plans of attack. Your decisions impact the outcome of every battle.

Hello Fans,

Terribly sorry for the lack of updates. It has come to our attention that you guys have been very patient, so we'll reward that a bit. It's not much (and it's rather old down our progress line), but it should still make you guys happy. To clarify a bit, we are not dead. In fact, we are far from dead. We are feature complete on Milestone 1 (which is all of the infantry combat), about 90% polished and we are working on squashing those elusive final bugs. Space combat is on it's way (on schedule to start in August) and we hope to bring you guys in-game screenshots soon (we are waiting patiently for the mappers to finish up their creations). We currently have 5 maps in the works. More updates on those later. Now onto the media!

Today (ironically Sunday, again), I bring you shots of the UTF Carbine, modelled and skinned by our art-guru Dete; as well as a face shot of the NGM Marine, modelled and skinned by RaZ. We hope to feature them in in-game screen shots soon (don't worry they are coming).

That's all for today, with our current bank of media, we should be able to bring you more next week, but don't quote me on that, we like to be sneaky.

...So, it looks like they are doing a lot of work even though they were being silent about it.
 
All i have to say is DAMN thats some awesome looking stuff. That weapon is phenomenal, it looks so amazing. The guy is fantastic also, whoever did them has my praise and to the whole team, I hope the best for you guys. This quality of work is my inspiration to continue learning the trade.

Yes we do tend to enjoy working silently (not all the time though, we give out a few snippets of info on our forums ;) ), and don't worry... We have sooo many people who have poured their time, sweat, and tears into this project we aren't going anywhere!

Make sure to go to our homepage for the entire story (or Sentinel has it up there too) and for an extra shot of the UTF Carbine.

I bet you guys want to know how the flamethrower looks in-game, right? :p

I can't believe this is the first time I've taken notice of this mod. This sounds like everything I've ever wanted...capital ships battling it out, dogfighting spacecraft, infantry battles...this mod has moved to the top of my "mods to watch" list.

Kudos to the team for the great concept and the awesome work (Dete's concepts are really slick; I love the ship design).
 
Personally I think the soldier is horrible, but the rest is more than good enough to make up for it. :)

Its no famethrower but in would help you see how wierd it would look (no gravity it would still work indoors with artificial gravity)

When you say flame-thrower in space are we talking just like...zero-gravity inside a ship, or actually outside IN space. If we're talking the latter--I don't think a flamethrower would work in actual SPACE space...no air, no fuel.

quit being so damn smart, its just a game


i reakon you would need to launch the air out as well, i mean people use torches underwater for welding, and that seems even less possible then in space

The hostile planet site is down now, so I couldn't compare, but from what I saw in an HL2.net update in a thread way back, our flamethrower is prettier than that. You can also splash napalm around and set traps. It's lag free and I've been sitting on the code for months (it was done back in april). We just wanna have decent backdrops before we release shots of it, but it's pretty good looking.
 
Another mod that i will surely have on my pc. Looking great.
