IMO DVD case is even better. You can't destroy it by accidently sitting on it or something. It's stronger i mean.. And its a single DVD not 6 cd's ant that is better too.

Ehm...I don't care... as long as the game works...

OMG WE GET A PIECE OF PAPER TOO!!!>!!?!1.1. Just imagine the things we could write on it!!! This is good news, surely good news.

the cool box takes up space, i have 8 cool boxes from very old games laying on my floor since there aint anyware els for them to go.
The dvd case is ideal in that it does everything that a box does and dusnt get destroyed or worn.
as for the part about the disc...im kinda glad we get that part...els it kinda makes the case and the slip of paper kinda useless...

What is wrong with a plastic DVD case?

They are small and neat. They are not that fragtile like cardboard boxes

the box is really kwl elaborate and looks relly modern, the dvd case looks cheap and flimsy

doom3 came in a box ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNND dvd type case

beat that you smelly candy floss eating bear munchers

I purchased via Steam. I always want English language version and it's quite hard to get in time here. However, if this game really, really, really, really rocks I'm considering buying the CE (if it's still available)

Agreed.

Every game comes with a dvd box nowadays. The only new game that didn't was UT2004 and that was six discs. Sure, they take more space but I don't really mind.
Anyway I'm getting it through Steam so I won't get a box at all.

i can beat the doom 3 coming in a box and case statement. It was a shit game. I actually found the box the most fun part, just the fact that it says play in the dark then i was trying to find the epilepsy warning saying playin in a well lit room taking breaks every few hours of play, etc, etc.

I do prefer dvd cases but no case at all just wins. I was over joyed when they got rid of room sized cardboard boxes and now no box at all. I doubt the manual is any good, why would valve waste there time on a good manual when they want the majority to go through steam.

I remember when they started replacing the old card boxes with the DVD cases over here (UK). They said it was better for the enviroment, which i always though was kinda odd, what with paper being a renewable resource when plastic isn't.

I've never got used to the things, sure they're more practical, and last longer, but they're not giant boxes. The giant boxes were awesome. :(

my thoughts exactly.

The paper-case situation is especially amusing given the number of people buying retail because they wanted a physical copy.

I have ordered through Steam, got a couple of printable CD's and a book-2-dvd case and printed myself out an awesome box and disk setup (thanks to the great fan art at http://www.marcopolo.me.uk/hl2.html). It looks way better than the nasty 5/6 CDs-in-paper and box than you get with the retail version.

Why do people care about a box?

I'm sorry but the dvd cases are very good and are standard here, get over it.

You don't buy it for the box right.

I prefer a DVD box, I prefer the game to be on a DVD, and I don't really find the American version any better looking at all.

I bought it via Steam, but I'm going to get it retail also, sooner or later.

I also prefer DVD case..and DVD thank god for no 6 CD´s!

I like the big boxes of old a lot more, DVD cases lack mystique.

It's a bit like comparing a record sleeve to a CD jewel case, the artwork just doesn't get a chance to shine on the latter..

ah well, you can never satisfy everyone.

But dvd cases are the standard, deal with it.

I think it's a good thing europe gets more and more on dvd, much better than swapping cd-roms while installing.

Boxes takes space, and space means more S&H expenses. So, for retailers the DVD box is better than the big paper boxes. I now prefer the DVD box: less space used, easier archival.

Prefer a single DVD. I can start install HL2 and do something else while waiting, instead of being there changing 5 cds, waiting for those 4,5GB to be installed.

No manual? It's a pity, but being a FPS, I guess that's excusable.

The UK version of UT2K4 came on DVD as standard - one small pleasure we get over the 6 disc wielding americans :D

yeah but you need a big sleeve to hold a record if they were all small say the size of a CD it would have just been like CDs are anyway. The big boxes for PC games was pointless, was there ever a point in it apart from to make it easier to see or pick up. How did the big box become standard all i remember was opening one and finding a big void with a case sittin somewhere in it.

Unless they dish it out in a silly paper envelope or a tissue they just used for "clean-up duties" then I could scarcely care less.
