I just got a free trial for this game, while waitinf for the download to finish I was just wondering what your opionion is on this game?

I was just too intimidated by the learning curve to get into it, uninstalled it only after minutes of trying to figure things out. If you're into heavily economy type games, that focus around collecting resources.. this is for you? I guess? The game is basically run by player made corporations, which is neat. But not exciting enough to keep my a.d.d. bay.

It's a very complex game, lots to take in but stick with it and after a couple of days playing it, you'll start to understand it.

It's the most involving, in-depth RPG I've played.

I played the trial, I was somewhat dissapointed.

I was having some real good fun with it, I was getting used to the game when I was giving the training mission to kill pirates, get a key and go through a warpgate.

It took me the whole time getting that key, and it never dropped. (Before you ask, yes, I checked I was killing the right pirates, etc.)

The time grind is absolutely crushing ... it takes literally years to really get far into the game... and even then your behind...

I played the game for over a year, and was in some of the biggest battles... atleast that I know of. Anyways I forgot alot of that game, but I do remember when I use to take some friends around in frigs when u could still use cruise missles on them and we would rape the crap out of miners, now that was sweet.

If you have the patience to learn how to play it properly, you'll have a ball I guess.

I hate how you don't move around with a joystick or anything, instead the movement is somewhat like Homeworld... or actually a standard MMORPG in space.

But really, the learning curve is ****ing insane... I gave it 2 hours of my own time before giving up on it.

Complex beyond belief. Learning new technologies to let you get bigger ships, guns, new shields, new engines, new hulls etc etc etc (basically every part of a ship can be tweaked for a different purpose) takes minutes, hours or days. So for example, if you start reading the book on it (well, your character reads it anyway) and it says 3 days, 4 hours and 17mins to learn, you actually have to WAIT that long while doing other things before youve learnt it. You dont have to be online waiting at the time though, which is awesome, you can log off and your character keeps learning so the time keeps going down.

Anyway, its a slow burning, complex, just...epic game. And yeah, its one of the biggest time consuming games ever made i think. Like X-Factor says, it can take literally years to become good, and by that time, things will have moved on and youll be behind again, as its 100% controlled by the players. If the economy is poor, its because players made it that way. If a war breaks out, its because players made it break out etc etc etc.

You need patience for this game...but its ohhhhhhh so worth it when you first set out of a station with that one ship youve literally spent months and months drooling over, saving for and learning for.

It's just ****ing dragged out so they can milk more money from you, like every other mmo. You'll spend the majority of your time doing repetitive tasks aka grinding, and you'll love them for it and gladly pay a monthly fee, like the fracking rest of the world seems to. So just go ahead and try it. Good luck.

I have played this since yesterday now and I quite like it :)

I am not sure I would pay for it though. Well see when the trial time runs out.

Edit: It reminds me a lot of the Escape Velocity series.

I would like to play it, but i just have the insane amount of time you need to dedicate to it before you get something out of it.

Its more addictive that WoW because it takes more time to do things. You can raid in WoW and get 3 or 4 pieces of your epic gear in one night run of like...well..my raiding group could start for Nefarian at about 6-6:30pm and have him slain, loot distributed etc etc and offline and me be in bed my midnight. Yeah thats not the fastest, but we'd wipe 2 or 3 times and usually BETWEEN boses for some strange reason. We also completed Ahn Qiraj in roughly the same amount of time once we got the correct gear.

Where as in EVE, if you want to do anything and get something big it takes ages to do. So youll set a vector and autopilot kicks in, yet for some reason youll sit there for 30 mins while you travel, without controlling your ship, doing other things and reading up on potential things to do next. Should i carry on transporting people and cargo or should i go for a quick mining session for some small cash?? Should i look into my insurance, upgrade my ship, find another station...etc etc and literally etc. Youll do what you wanted, then for some reason youll go do something else. Its about the thrill of you having 100% complete control, and not having some limp-wristed old murloc wannabe saying hes lost his eyeball to a random fish so you should go and get it for him by sitting in the same spot for 10 hours clicking on a bobbing blob everytime while fishing hoping you get this random fish...then giving up through sheer annoyance, only to come back the next week and get it first time! AHHHHHH!
Theres TOO much to do, where as in WoW youve effectively completed it once youve downed Nefarian...but now the BC has come i dont know whos the hardest.

Eve was boring, Played for an hour, after finding out that leveling skills can take days, I said **** it. Not only that, but it's one of the most unexciting games I've ever played.

Eve isn't boring, it just takes a long time to get anyware in it.

EvE is brillent, i have been playing it for over a year now and my character is starting to get pretty pimp!

What makes the game something specil is the depth, its not about controling your ship with a joystick :/ its about whats going on in the world. Who is doing what, who is your friends and who wants to kill you. Its a very vishous and unforgiving universe where you can gain everything one day only to lose it all the next. The excitment of fleet battles is amazing, knowing you could lose everything you worked for in seconds but on the other hand knowing killing your enemy will cause great distress to them!

If you want to enjoy your time on eve the 2 week trial is never enough. You need to get out there and experiment. Find some people who know what they are doing and stick with them learning as much as you can as doing it your self is a very daunting task. As i said earler, i have been playing for over a year now and i still learn something new about the game everyday. Its amazing how much there is going on.

Also have a read on the forums on the eve-online website, its cool reading up on the big fleet battles for resorces and more space.

Id have to say, its definately the biggest game out there, the universe insanely big.

The only real downside that I can see with this game is that you'll literally need to put your life on hold if you want to get anywhere with it.

Yeah good game if you have some spare time for it.
For those that want to give it a try you can get the free 14 day trial HERE

Saying that you can put as much or as little time into this game as you want. Your character development is not done though any form of grinding, you don't get better through killing enemies. Character development is done over time, you learn skills which takes "X" amount of time to achive. These skills give you access to better equipment plus all the things you would expect such as more weapon damage, increased mining yields, improved drones, the list is endless.

Every item requires some kind of skill to be used but the choices are endless. With so many ships and fittings there is always something to be planning or something to be doing.

But of course time does help, the more you play the more money you will have and the more money you have the better ships and named items you will be able to get your hands on.

EVE is very complicated at times......but it can be very fun and addicting....
