i am currently downloading XSI from fileplanet, and have never touched a modeling program before in my life...

i dont know the layout, termanology, or tactics...

all the tutorials seem to assume you know your way around enough to find options like "lathe around XX something whatever", and THAT was in the beginner section!

please help me find the most noobie of noob tutorials, that can give me a basic knowlage of the program step by step, starting at the first time i open the program...

help this future modeler's career get a quickstart! thanks in advance ^_^

(wanna try vehicle and weapon modeling eventually)

have a look on www.3dbuzz.com sign up and login and there are a load of video tutorials.. not sure if there are any for XSI but why not have a look :)

good luck

If there's enough support we may offer XSI tutorials for the absolute beginners, covering things other tutorials wouldn't normally touch. But only if there's enough support for it.

it would help if someone with aim could talk me thru it, sort of an apprentceship of modeling so to speak...

can anyone help me? :dork:

the point system was a great idea,, all it really does is prevents people from downloading like 8 gigs of tutorials and never doing them,,

can anyone talk to me on AIM? i dont understand any of it @_@

need some person-to-person instruction....

Yeah, I could also use a very n00b of the n00b tut.

I had never used any modeling programme before when I first tried EXP and I learnt enough from the Softimage tutorials to start off. I found that they don't explain exactly what button to press and stuff, but that helped me to find stuff for myself and remember where it was easier.
Wow, look at me, posting and everything.

i have a few of the basics down, how do you shift your view in the subwindows?

like... how do you move your view left and right in the 2d ones, zoom out in the 2d ones, and how do you rotate in the 3d ones?

Fenric
That sounds like a realy cool idea..(mod tutes for the beginner in XSI)
hope you get the support the idea m8 :)

for the love of pete please do it..... I have no doubt there are hundreds/thousands of people that would benifit from something like that.

The stanard XSI tuts seem to leave out alot of important steps.....it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to select a poly :hmph:

so none of you would be willing to tutor me personally in XSI?

like one on one Aol Instant messager? :bonce:

that would be really cool of you

Sure, but it'll cost you. One on one tutoring is expensive

You would actually charge him Fenric?
Course I would, tutoring someone properly isn't something just anyone can do. I've charged people before for it and in return they get proper tutoring, not just half arsed replies to questions, they do a one on one course and learn from the basics upward. Don't forget while I'm tutoring him, I wouldn't be able to do other work, if I don't get paid I lose money.

I'd also have to setup a lesson plan fit around what they already know. All this takes time to do to make it individual for each person, its not something you'd do for free. Besides doing it for free pisses off those who do it as a living.

ill give you $30 :-p im not rich you know... (dont care how professional you are.... you could be jesus christ:expert badass modeler, and i still dont have the cash to pay a salary)

on a much less expensive note, how do you change your view in the model windows, pan left and right, and zoom forward and backward

I prefer s, cause its all there on a three button mouse, zoom, pan, rotate. and cause of sticky keys you can just keep hold of it, move the view around let go and its back to the tool you used just before. Though I like Maya's Alt key method too, but thats cause I've got Alt mapped to one of the side mouse buttons, very handy.

hmmm ill give s a try then. I realized the amount of crap i dont know. I just tried to model a sword (without the handle, mind you) and it took me waaaay too long. i got it eventually.

Milkshape 3D is the most user friendly model program ever.

It isn't that good if you want to model exclusively for HL2 but if you want a program thats easy to use and helps you get to grips with the whole modeling she-bang it ain't shabby

Having "idiot" tutorials for people like me would be would be awesome. Doing that would only help HL2.net become more popular.

*pokes Feneric till he submits*

BTW, what do you do for a living Fenric? It seems like you know a lot about modeling and the like.
