Normally, when I compile for testing, I set BSP to normal, Vis to fast, and Rad to normal, and this only times 5-6 minutes to complete. Though, when I try to compile with normal Vis, it never finishes, and I have left it going for 10 hour periods. Is it possible that the compile process is causing an error sometime during the 10 hours I leave it, or should it really take this long?

vis takes the longest to complete especially on normal...i have a huge map i am making and i tried to compile normal vis but just takes too damn long...so i run with fast for now until i am done mapping it...hours are not uncommon for a large map to compile completely.

you need to read up on optimization and performance of maps

Yeah mine looks likes its gonna take ages too, ive put in the hint and skip brushes and converted loads of things to func_detail and put areaportals on all doors and windows...still takes ages...i havent left it to finish yet, ill finish the map then leave it running overnight or something

Yeah, my map is pretty big with alot of lights so it takes a while. I have a gig of RAM though and a nice processor so its not hours and hours but it does take a while.

1 gig PC3200 along with a 3.0ghz, and it's still won't finish. :P

I guess I could move on to the optimization, and hope that helps.

i left my map on compile last ngith, i wake up, and its still going. I just shut it off after a good 13 hours.

I have 512 DDR PC3200 and 1.8 GHz
