Word from the Battlefield: Bad Company beta test is that several weapons in the game's arsenal are locked, with "Available for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace" notations next to them. In total 10 weapons are listed as for sale, with five of them also available in the Gold Edition of the game. What this basically means is that people willing to drop a little extra cash, be it in the store or on Xbox Live, will have more weapons to choose from than someone who scrapes together just enough to pick up the game itself.

OMFG
leave it to EA to pull a stunt like this
i'm officially not buying the game now

Wow, just, wow

Bad Company didn't have me too excited, but why do something like this just to scrap up a few more bucks?

Isn't EA also the one to sell cheat codes? Doesn't surprise me, really.

Wow.

Not that I was excited for this console shooter.

yeah, i notice you can purchase weapons when i launched the game... shit's retarded. Shelling out extra cash for a gun is a scam. 1st charging for new maps now this, rofl.

I was waiting for the catch on how to get more weapons. lawl

Ditto

Except for the destructible environments, I didn't give two shits about this game

Ditto Ditto.

I REALLY hope this flops so bad EA fixes their business strategies on that..

What the hell am I thinking?

I remember hearing about that, I think. I know for a fact they tempt you into registering your game by giving you cheat codes.

Stupid move, now I am certainly not buying the game (it interested me a little bit :()

It'll be interesting to see how the different console versions of the game (360, PS3 and eventually PC) handle paying for the DLC.

Ten bucks that everyone will have to pay.

When a company like EA charges $60 for a game, then makes you buy features that should have come with it and fill it up with in-game advertising ... they kinda make piracy seem justified. Anyone who plays or even watches the game is indirectly contributing to EA's revenue flow no matter what just because of the sheer volume of in-game advertising they throw at you, and now with micro-transactions for basic game features they're hitting you again. It's utterly ridiculous.

Games have been moving in this direction for a very long time. They're overpriced, usually not incredibly high quality, and now they're starting to hit you with more payments even after you shelled out more money than the game is worth in the first place. This started with inflated pricing, then MMO's and monthly fees, progressed with invasive in-game advertising, and is now taking the form of micro-transactions.

Companies like Valve who provide a ridiculous amount of value for the money and then continue to support the game after release without hitting the consumer up for more cash are examples of the way the industry needs to move forward. There's a reason why the Orange Box is the only game I've bought in a long, long time...

I really hate micro-transactions. I buy a game, I don't want to have to pay out some more for stuff that should be included. If the game came out cheaper, then sure, that's no so bad, but it'll come out at full price so they're basically over charging people who buy this stuff.

Good job I wasn't getting this, only thing that interested me was the destructable environments.

Here's to hoping they don't pull a stunt like this with BF3. I bet they do.

No, the stunt they have in store for BF3 is the same Microsoft/Bungie studios had for Halo 2 and 3.

Yes, that's right - Give it to the idiots behind the Xbox first, and then a few years later, let the PC guys have a crappy port of it.

Nert Nert Nert.

Nobody cares about this game anyways.

I don't like the move they've taken for giving 5 weapons a price, but looking through the list of weapons (http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Gameinfo.Detail&id=262&game=9), none of the 5 are very groundbreaking (unless they've been heavily tweaked?) and I doubt the playing field will be changed at all to the benefit of those who have bought them.

If you played BF2 and unlocked the weapons with SF, you'll know that the extra weapons were pretty much better (higher damage / accuracy). The SF Medic and Sniper weapons are insanely good compared to vanilla BF class weapons.

One thing we all know is that DICE has absolutely horrible balance sense, I'm willing to bet those micro-transaction weapons will be better than vanilla. Hell if they can't get the balance right (after many MANY complaints in their forums) on a game without micro-transactions, can you imagine a game WITH them?

Yeah, I have looked at the guns and compared them; they dont seem to be that much better.

Lol at Horse Armour tag
