I was thinking about this in my car on my way to Arby's to get dinner.
If you connected about........100-1000 or more explosive barrels an made them all explode as the EXACT SAME TIME.
Would the explosion or the FORCE of the explosion equal that of a Nuke?

Disscus.

i have Gmod 9 but i cant get it to work and no one is willing to help me
and for some reason steam wont work

but like i said i was just thinking about it

Why were you thinkin about this on the way to arby's??? does it have anything to do with halflife? hey, what if there was an arby's in halflife?

The force of the explosion would crash your game.

No, for serious.

once again i was just thinking
you dont have to flame me for thinking

D: Unfortunately yes. It's way to hard to do.

If it did work, it would be a lot of fun, seeing all those NPC's flying back with full force, even some bigger stuff like a train cart just flying from the force and crushing another npc hiding.

I've tried 250 barrels at the exact same spot, and from at least what I've seen, there seems to be a certain "maximum" force a ragdoll or object can be pushed, which would make 1000 barrels all at once pretty pointless.

you guys make me want gmod...

and welcome back big explosions. havent seen anything of you since absinthe and spectreblofeld were tearing each other's throats out and you made that stupid picture lol... they still tear each others throats out but on different topics now

What I want to know is if you use the portal gun in HL2 and drop an explosive barrel into a terminal velocity loop and then create the other portal against a wall, will the barrel come out fast enough to explode on impact when it comes flying out?

yeah, my idea of nuke is that blowing up that many barrels nukes my computer in gmod, and i usually have to restart :p

Inkheart, do you mean in the HL2 Universe and thus a reason for all the barrels in the game or do you mean in gmod?

As for in HL2 the answer would be no because a Nuke is a bomb that contains a split atom and the barrels would just be a regular explosion, no matter how many you had.

Nah, explosive barrels aren't taking fall damage.

The gravitygun punt is a different thing.

Apparently the gravity gun primes the explosive barrel as well.

The first atomic bomb detonated over Japan, codenamed "Little Boy," exploded with a force equal to about SIXTEEN THOUSAND TONS of TNT (which is nitroglycerin suspended in clay). No, a couple of explosive barrels aren't going to come anywhere near that, as they don't even have a fraction of the destructive power that even a small stick of dynamite has. Sticks of dynamite are used to blow apart rock in blasting operations.

true.....BUT there is a mod for it that allows you to have TNT
so couple TNT and Boom-Barrels and you might have enough force for a A-bomb

reason plz?

Okay, let's take water as an example.

The first atomic bomb, Little Boy, which is relatively weak as far as nukes go, was a 16 kiloton bomb - meaning it equaled the energy release of the detonation of sixteen thousand TONS of TNT.

Let's pretend for a second that they're talking about sixteen thousand tons of water instead of TNT.

If water had the destructive energy capacity of TNT, then you would need 3,834,510 GALLONS of water to equal the power released by that nuke.

Try to imagine four million gallons of TNT. And I'm not talking about dynamite sticks; dynamite is simply TNT diluted with clay. I'm talking about the actual shit that makes it go BOOM.

Seeing as how your typical explosive barrel seems to be less powerful than an average stick of (diluted) TNT, then I'd wager that it'd take a small city sized stack of explosive barrels to equal that sort of destructive capacity.

you could make a small city with barrels
weld TNT around each and every one of the barrels
stand waaaaaaaay far back as far as you can
then watch the show

1 600 explosive barrels would still act like 1 600 small explosions in HL2, by the way.

Source can't combine the explosion force together.

The show is called "Error in Vertex::DX9" or whatever the hell error it spits out.

The larget nuke constructed or tested was Big Ivan (1961). A 50 megaton 'crowd pleaser'. That's the equilvant of 3,870 Little Boys, or 61,920,000 tons, or 123,840,000,000 pounds of TNT....now that's alot of explosive barrels....:rolling:
BTW I dig the name 'SpectreBlofeld': gotta love the James Bond reference....

In the real world you'd need millions of barrels of TNT, but yes, I believe they would.

In the game, no.

Thanks! Not many people get it, which is surprising considering how popular the Bond franchise is.

No doubt, but you're talking old school James Bond. When he smoked, drank, gambled, and slapped a silly woman every once in awhile....In other words, the good old days...:cheese:

You've gotta wonder what would happen if you put a wall of explosive barrels in front of the train in Team Fortress 2 Well...
They did it with heavy's already.

I'm not sure what i find more disturbing... the idea you have in that a bunch of exploding barrels will cause a nuclear explosion or that you went to Arby's for dinner.

Btw... I think the latter is far more likely to cause a nuclear explosion than the former.

Ever read the original Ian Fleming Bond novels? They're fantastic. Yeah, Bond smokes seventy cigarettes a day. God damn.

/Treading off-topic... ah well. James Bond and Gordon Freeman are both iconic 'heroes...'

hey im i little off my rocker what can i say?

Yes. .

I read one a long time ago...can't remember the title tho. Didn't I catch somewhere that Fleming was part of British Intelligence during WW II? James Bond-trying to save the world with a hottie by his side...Gordon Freeman-trying to save the world with a hottie by his side...hummmm. Hey, wait a sec! The G-Man is Blofeld!! (Makes as much sence as some of the other theories I've heard)..
