One of the reasons the demo jumped between so many different levels is that Monolith wanted to show off the variety that's now in the game. If the original F.E.A.R. had one issue, it was that the environments and enemies rarely changed. You fought either in deserted industrial settings, or deserted office settings. And you fought identical clone soldier after identical clone soldier. So from the get go, there's a battle atop a condominium tower against mercenaries. Then we skipped forward to the gutted streets of Auburn where we got to climb into a giant suit of power armor and mow down the opposition with chain guns and missiles. Then the elementary school turned into a paranormal haunted house; it looks just like your elementary school, only it has a crashed helicopter in the middle of it, as well as a poltergeist or two. Finally, there was a level inside a secret military facility, which may be the oldest clich? in the book, but it's still well done here, with a particularly awesome climactic moment which I won't spoil.
It's looking good so far, there are also some new developer videos:

Cool, I loved the first FEAR. The game really was carried by its fantastic gunfights, which were so much fun that I was able to overlook many other flaws. And they seem to have addressed those flaws. One of my worries, though, is with all these new enemies they might fall into "Crytek Syndrome". By which I mean they have large segments of the game dedicated to fighting enemies that just aren't as fun as plain old guys with guns, straying too far from what is great about the game. It's great that they're creating new and interesting enemies, but I hope the Replica soldiers are the most common throughout the game, because fighting them is what holds FEAR together.

Wait, the Monolith one is called F.E.A.R. again now? Did they buy back the rights to the name or something?

I seriously cant wait for this. Loved the 1st.

Only problem I had with the first FEAR was the boring environments later on, but it seems like that's been sorted out.

Very interested D:

Really enjoyed the first, one of the few games I have played that actually had me edge for most of the play through. Can't wait for this :D

If they can create an experience half as visceral as F.E.A.R, with twice the graphical shenanigans it's good enough for me.

Well it looks like the particle cannon/rail gun/ whatever, is back.

I'm not sure about all the monsters they seem to be adding. Could end up, as said above, like a Crytech game.

I thought that screen was from the first fear o_O

anyway i'm looking forward to this

I don't know what you guys expected. It's the same engine with some improvements and added support for extra shaders. The characters for example still look like plastic.

But I don't care about all that the main thing I loved about the first game was how well they did the sounds and special effects on the weapons and from the videos it looks like it won't disappoint in that department.

Looks a shit ton better than F.E.A.R. in terms of graphics. Those screens are really bad and don't do it any damn justice imo.

Well it's true that a game usually looks better in motion. Anyway, it looks fine to me. For one thing they expanded the color palette which is always a welcome thing.

I've always thought the crowning achievement of FEAR's graphics was its particle system. At the time it was the best out there, and seeing the dust being kicked of from a firefight was spectacular. Are they gonna tell us whatever happened to the point man, though? It would suck if they just had him die, making all our efforts in the original FEAR for nothing. I hate when a sequel kills off the character you were in the first one, unless he dies for a really good reason.
