F.E.A.R. Sequel Becomes Project Origin

I have FEAR installed but never completed it. Will do it one day.

Sweet. Good thing the name I voted for won! Honestly, it was the one that best fit...

It better have one. The other choices were something my 10 year old cousin might have thought were cool two years ago.

I don't know why some people hate this game so much *I guess they can't please everybody..* but I never got bored playing the game. It, most times, kept me on my toes!

Well, a name will not make me buy a game. Hopefully the sequel will actually improve upon the formula the first one tried to perfect.

I'm looking forward to this - I thoroughly enjoyed the first two games of this franchise. Are there two sequels coming out?
The game is not to be confused with Vivendi's planned F.E.A.R. sequel, which can not use the characters from Monolith's 2005 shooter.
I also thought one of these was a prequel, but have no basis for this other than a vague feeling in my gut (and I may be getting a false positive because I'm gassy).

I remember hearing about it, possibly the one that Vivendi is doing. But yeah, V is doing one, since they own the name, and the people who made it are doing one, since...well...they made it.

Maybe because of the repetitive and monotonous level design; possibly because of the generic storyline or even because it's the usual ho-hum stuff. Probably all of them.

riiight, or you could at least try to post a valid argument against it?

I found the engine to be pretty poorly optimized which turned into it running pretty awfully no matter what system I threw it onto. I also found the plot to be retarded at best, and most of the gameplay pretty boring and repetitive. All in all, everything that makes a bad game for me.

The physics were pretty awesome, and some parts were at least atmospheric and scary. I don't buy a game because it's pretty, I buy it because I want to have fun. My favorite game ever was made in 1994 ffs.

Overall I was pretty disappointed (Especially considering the guys made NOLF and Tron) but, admittedly, I usually have pretty high expectations.

Exactly. And those of us that like FEAR actually had fun playing it. Nobody is forcing you to play it if you don't like it.

Samon stole my post dawg. FEAR was a bit of mindless fun but I never even bothered to finish it (though I got pretty close to the end before I decided it was no longer worth the time). The level design is ... lacking.

FEAR ruled. Haters can go kill themselves plz. :|

FEAR was I thought a very original and exiting shooter with exellent atmosphere, some levels had me extremely tense, however I feel it severely lacked replay value which is why I played through it once, really enjoyed it, then uninstalled. I never bothered with the expansion since the reviews said it was rubbish.

See what time holds for this new one though.

I tried the free multiplayer version but it was pretty boring. But that's probably just because i've basically lost all interest in FPS

It was better than Prey, at least.

Prey sucked, yeah. FEAR was better.
Prey was so mindnumbingly bad it was ridiculous. I really just played through it hoping it would suddenly turn incredibly awesome. D:

This is Operation Flashpoint 2/Armed Assault all over again.
They can't use the name "FEAR" but have the rights to the games characters.
WTF!?!?

So,instead of a proper sequel incorporating all of the elements from the previous titles,we will get two half assed sequels with missing links to the previous storyline.
Yay for corporate bureaucratic bullshit.

What? They just don't own the name. The actual game will still be a true, proper sequel.

Doom 3 sucked, Bog. I'm sorry to have to tell you this. Sin did too.

It really doesn't matter. Sin is the bad egg. You like that, it's a one way ban ticket.

Jesus, this forum is a damn tough crowd when it comes to games that don't innovate.

Every game that is released doesn't have to be a ground-breaking game to end all games.
Some devs just release games to give the consumer something to play for fun.

Games like Prey, Quake 4, Doom 3, and FEAR... I personally thought that they were all really fun to play.
Non-stop action, a small portion of story-telling, and great graphics... what's not to like?
