F.e.a.r

And it's somewhat like the FC and the D3 engine....I love Source exactly b/c it doesnt gives that aspect to models

plaaaaaaaaastic.

yeah uh the game looks really neat and nextgen though.

The game is a year away! half-life 2 with every new screen shot released is getting worst! you think half-life 2 will be the best game? what maybe month or two from release and you say fear will be bullshit eventhough its a year from release? WTF?

Woah...Calm down. People just said it was like Far Cry and Doom 3 in that the models haeva shiney plastic look. Its simply an opinion that Hl2 looks better because its more gritty.

Besides....this is a halflife2 website, you can hardly expect the a rival game to apeal more to the majority of people on here.

Fear owns every game. Half-life 2 sucks. happy?

I've said this once and say it again. Gamespot is a sucker for plastic graphics with high poly models...give them that and they'll make it game of the year without considering gameplay.

And I've said before: Gamespot doesn't awards games good scores based solely on if they have "plastic" graphics. It just doesn't happen.

Plus: I think the guy in the FEAR hat on the left of that SS looks really good actually. Not plastic at all.

Hmmm the game looks so... so hmmm PLASTIC!!!

The game looks amazing what the hell are you talking about?...Go watch the video for it. Who really cares if it looks shiny? or is that something that happens soon as people start saying a games looking good and it _could_ compete or even be better than half life 2, same as Stalker.

Everyone nit-picks at stupid little bits in games that you dont ACTUALLY care about. I cant wait to find a bug or a glitch in a HL2 video/screen.

Will this game being shiny make it crap, everyone slates FarCry because it is the best looking game OUT (or was at the time) ...you people could find something wrong in a perfect game, like the main character being to fat or having not enough hair...i dont know but you would moan at it anyway.

Havent you found any glitch or a bug in the HL2 trailers?

F.E.A.R. should be changed to M.A.T.R.I.X. R.I.P.O.F.F.

I mean the game does look very cool and all but, the slow motion and flying round kicks, anyone else having flashbacks of the lobby scene? Especially the one portion where the guy shoots one round off and it destroys/disspears a 2'x2' chunk of the wall in the new video. Then the invisible deforming that goes on when the guy throws a grenade looks just like the effect during the helicoptor crash. It seems like a really good game, I like the scary effect it gave when the guy was getting some sort of jamming and he spots some savage human. It'll be a good game once it comes out.

To be fair...just because its been done before doesn't mean its a ripoff...if it suits the game then it suits the game.

this game looks absolutley amazing and you should check out the new footage of it....looks really good fun

Nah i aint because the HL2 videos are to low ressolution to see any gfx problems or texture problems. They are also probably checked alot before they are released and optimized to look better, its always the case. Same goes for the screenshots, im pretty sure they have been run through photoshop before they get released.

New footage? Where? Link please :p

Wow! that looks great, it makes me want it even more now.

I think this could very well be a max payne bullet time beater by the looks of things. Cant wait for this. (ages though :( )

Was very impressed with the vid. Screens don't do it justice.

It looks pretty good (though, not as cool as Doom 3)... but I still hate the fact that this soldier can slow down time. "Bullet Time" was a cool feature until tons of games and movies copied it. Now, it's just another gimmick (and it has been for quite a while) that is overused to distract from other shortcomings.

you mean low poly models....far cry and doom3 have really f**king low poly models...F.E.A.R. has average to high

FEAR definitely looks a little too plastic. I hope they remedy that before release.

I'm sure it will be a great game though. It's made by Monolith, who created Alien vs. Predator 2 and two of my favorite FPS games, No One Lives Forever 1/2.

the game looks about as good as that Starship troopers computer animated series from a few years back (which looked awesome IMO)...boy has gaming ever jumped in leaps and bounds since then

Roughnecks is starting to look a little dated actually, so I'd say that this is probably better. We'll have to see if they can emote.
I'd agree with the bullet-time thing if not for two things: 1) It's done really well and 2) How often do you see it in an FPS?
Most of the games to overkill on it have been third person affairs. When you translate it to an FPS it becomes quite different. Something the video shows off is just how fast and blazing the firefights are. This wouldn't be much fun unless you could slow it down a little and think about your next move.

Look at the shadow bug when gordon lifts a container of the ground (e3 this year) and look at bug bite, in the end a door gets smashed away and its standing on one corner of the door.
Btw sorry for bad english.

Well, how often do you see bullet time in a sitcom? Does that mean it is a good idea? No. Do I have to even see it to hate the idea? No. Does a gimmick have to be used in every known media and genre for it to be overdone? No.

An idea doesn't have to be in every type of game for it to become a cliché.

... but that is all beside the point because there have been FPS games (and mods) that had bullet time.

Well, they should have thought about that before they went and made everything all uberfast and no-fun-to-play-without-slo-mo.

IMO, "bullet time" is roughly the equivalent of "deus ex machina" in terms of creativity... no matter how many fancy shockwave effects or spatial distortion shaders you slap on it.

HL2's character models still look better. That chick in the screenshot looks like a Barbie doll. It's not about plastic, really. Just something about the textures and the lighting. And all that given that HL2's character faces were actually toned DOWN in realism because they were having to boost everything else up to match it. The self-shadowing is nice though... but what's with the black mark on that guy's face? Is his boom mike casting a shadow UP, against the light?

HL2 character models have feckles (probable), spots and cheekbones (G-man) and not completely flawless skin with stubles and facial hair (e.g: Barney) for the gritty feel. This is realistic.

F.E.A.R models have ultra smooth skin (remind me to ask which face cream the use), very nicely groomed hair, no spot, moles or freckles and dots. You call that a real face? - or these guys get a make over everyday? the girl looks like a barbie doll for pete's sake!

I never said there hadn't been ANY FPS games with bullet time, just relatively few. Just because about a bazillion games try to use it as a gimmick doesn't mean that it can't be done well and appropriately. Lets not forget that the reason its so popular is because it looks so awesome, or at least it did before we saw it zillion times.

The issue with the "plastic" look and feel of the player and npc models is only apparent in broad daylight, since both Doom and Fear will be played throughout darklit rooms and corridors you won't notice that fault. That's how I see it. I saw the fear trailers and I'm simply amazed by this game, then I saw the screenshots and I was like "uggggh lame"... But screenshots aren't always the best media, I think the trailer has much more potential.

Besides, the story seems cool. Looks to me like it's a corporation that's been messing around with genetics and bio-engineering, or even psychotropic drugs. That would explain the apparitions no?

Hey even my grandfather agreed that HL2 characters looked more realistic than the F.e.a.r characters.

Meh.. The graphics are just like Doom III , plastic pseudorealism, shaders and bumpmaps and about 2 polygons per character, the game is just that old freaking solo non ending action shit I thought we'd have left by now.. And matrix ripoff, needless to say.

If these are the graphics of the future games, I'll go shit on someones face and leave the gaming industry.. :/
