Every 2-3 hours I get rung by an unsolicited number (I dial 1471 to find out). Unsolicited usually means foreign telesales. I wouldn't mind talking to them, but ringing up to find the connection cuts out 2 seconds later is annoying. I'm not entirely sure if they are doing it on purpose or if there is a bug on the oposite end.

Is there a way of finding out if its an international call, without paying anything?

This is a general discussion thread as well, so post your past problems with this :rolling:

You can block spam telephone calls now I think with BT.

Do you mean you get called, by a withheld or unknown number, after you pick up the phone, you just hear a click and they've hung up?

If so, I've had that plenty of times before, but I wasn't sure what it was. Annoying as hell though.

I get a call at 9 AM every morning from telemarketers..I've given up picking the damn phone up.

I used to get random calls in the morning, I think it was freeserve (wanadoo) randomly trying to connect to my phoneline, I know because when I was on dial-up, it would randomly call people up, I could hear them talking though my speakers...

"Hello, Hello? what the ****, not this again, Jill its one of those phone calls again."

Why don't you just subscribe to the no call list?

There is a way to take yourself off the lists of randon tele marketers. Yes BT offers something like that, not sure what though. It is f****ng annoyin when they call up. Used to happen to me all the time. Just look into it and phone up what company you are with and explain your problem.

I hate people trying to sell me stuff over the phone. Sometimes when I'm bored I just string them along for 20 minutes then go "oh, you know what, I'm actually not that interested."

Or sometimes I just hang up at a random point during the convo.

As soon as you realise the person calling you is a salesperson, just repeat everything they say back to them, untill they hang up. Better yet, say "Please hold" and put the phone on "secrecy" (Stops the other person hearing you) and walk away. Remember to put it back on the hook after they eventually hang up.
