Ugh. Just when I thought MAYBE Peter had learned from the horrible disappointments of the first two, he goes ahead and does this.

Lionhead's Peter Molyneux has confirmed that Fable III will support Microsoft's Project Natal motion-sensing technology, as well as micro-transactions.

As well as buying in-game items, Molyneux suggested a storefront in the game could offer walkthroughs for sale, although he admitted features were still up in the air, and could be dropped before release.
(LOL at that last little dig)
Source.

So an in-game store where I can buy in-game swords for REAL WORLD money?? And buying an FAQ??? WTF is he smoking?? And Natal support for running, turning keys, or fighting enemies is going to be nothing short of ridiculous, annoying, and feel like an afterthought. I am thinking I will never understand this tech. Creative needs (i.e. good game ideas) should drive tech, not the other way around. Why oh why did I ever buy into the Fable hype at any point in my existence??

Uncharted was guilty of similar crimes when it came out and used the six-axis for annoying things like balancing on logs. Uncharted 2 WISELY dumped this ridiculous me-too mechanic. Peter and the rest of the supporters of this title should take a clue.

meh a lot of games have microtransactions only you have to quit out of the game to buy anything in some cases. I'm not all that concerned over in game transactions so long as they provide most of the useful content for free. they can charge for cosmetics I dont care. Fable2 has proven that they can deliver quality DLC so I'm not all that worried. without knowing the first thing about Fable3 it's almost a guarenteed purchase for me; the previous titles were tons of fun

and if anyone can find a good way of intergrating natal it's molyneux. they'd be prefect for fable's emote system

I sure hope I can chop wood by hitting one button for endless hours in this one. I absolutely loved that part of Fable 2.

I served beer instead cuz wood chopping is for faggits ;)

Of course not, you'll do karate chops for endless hours instead.

Screw Fable 3. I want my goddamn Fable 2 PC Port Molyneux.

Well, to be fair, all Fable 2 was able to provide was more evidence that Peter and his crew are not capable of making a very good game, let alone one that has all of its promised features intact by the time release comes. The thing that really irks me with the shop idea is the blurring of the lines of reality with the addition of the in-game store that uses real-world currency. I hate micro-transactions in the first place, but this just makes things worse. Imagine playing Dragon Warrior on the NES and in order to buy that really cool looking armor you had to fork out $0.99 or that brutal sword for $1.99. The horror!! You pay full price for a game and you should get a complete product and not be expected to shell out ANY more money for additional content unless, as you say, it is an expansion that adds A LOT of value for the money. The expansions for Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights are GREAT examples of expansions being really worth the price of admission, but in both cases the games were more than amazing in their own right, unlike either Fable title imho.

Ugh, I dunno man. I really don't think there will be anything new, innovative, or fun in Fable 3 with Natal. It should have taken a very creative mind to think of a game that needed this tech and the game would be a validation of and justification for the tech, not the other way around. The only way I would give Peter any credibility here is if he would have thought of the gameplay mechanics first and then the technology. I just don't see this as ending up being fun at all and it still seems like it would prove problematic when playing with other people in the room as well.

I like the Fable series and I do plan on buying Fable 3. I won't be buying any in-game transactions though.

I hate how sucked into natal everyone one is. While I might be interested in going through the menu and operating videos a la Minority Report, it's use for games at the moment is limited. It will pander to shitty eye-toy esque games, and probably ruin several future titles.

"OH HOLY SHIT IT'S SO COOL YOU CAN LIKE SWING YOUR SWORD AND SHOOT WITH YOUR HANDS ZOMG"

Playing through a game that requires you to actively swing your sword is tiring and fun for about two minutes, before you realize you're movement is crippled. Don't **** this up Molyneux, I'm still waiting on Fable 1 promises.

But I'll probably still buy it anyways...*sigh*

I cant think of any features that didnt make it to the final game or DLC ...also the game is good, and that's not just my opinion

in every game I've played that has microtransactions it's always cosmetic add on and never game play add ons. North american audiences are just getting used to microtransactions they companies are not stupid; they're not going to make any microtransaction a gamebreaking necessity

wel we cant really say anything either way because we have no idea what they will use it for. so any talk is just speculation based on nothing really

well we really dont know what they will use it for. any speculation is premature.

Molyneux said something about only being able to play certain quests through micro-transactions.

As long as the majority of the side-quests aren't microtransactions, it should be fine.

...all good points...
Yeah, I think we just have different views of the series. I got these games thinking they would be terrific and they were only average. They entertained me for a while, but my interest dropped off the face of the planet once I completed them. This is not the mark of a good game for me.

It is true: the game is long from release, so it could be everything that I hope it will be, but I have been fooled twice and will not let myself be hyped up this time. A rental seems in order at most. Does that mean I will have to rent Natal as well?? Gads.

Don't believe him. He doesn't have a 360! Victim of Science? Owning a 360? Hah, that's preposterous! What, after all of the harsh criticism over why anyone would own one, he's been the biggest critic over the years.

do you have a 360?
I sure do. How do you think I played Mass Effect a week before its street date with a copy bought from the KMart down the road?? :naughty: Currently I only have 2 games for it though: Mass Effect and Test Drive: Unlimited. I have sold back Bioshock and Fable 2. Those were the only 4 games I ever bought for the system and as such I am SERIOUSLY thinking about selling the whole thing back as I have an upgraded PC now and I don't need the 360 for any exclusives it may have (timed). (I am pretty sure Alan Wake will be on PC not too long after the 360 version.)

As far as Fable goes, overall the series is relatively disappointing to me. I get done and I just have no real interest in taking the journey again. The replay value is nil and it was not really all that fun in the first place. The combat was decent at first, but you you get a little more powerful, there really was no challenge. The emoticon things and gifts and courtships and family and such were just annoying and didn't serve me any purpose or sense of fulfillment. Trying to get my character thin again was friggin IMPOSSIBLE too. These games never felt like a real RPG to me either which was disappointing. More like a normal 3rd-person action-adventure. Not typically my thing unless there is at least one quality that is OUTSTANDING about it.

I hate microtransactions!

Hate hate hate hate hate!!!!!
