Cool. It's predecessor Soldiers: Heroes of World War II was one of my fav games in 2004. Really looking forward to see how the series has evolved.

it's not an RTS at all you controll a small group of soldiers in a world thats fully destructable, beautiful physics, you can damage a vehicle, kill the crew then repair it and use it against them!

every soldier has an inventory so you can loot the bodies of the recently deceased for ammunition, weapons etc.

The direct controll feature is quick well done as well allowing you to aim and move the soldier directly.

I hope the missions are as hard as it's predecessor.

Wow this looks almost identical to Company of Heros which is a AWSOME game by the way and Ive only played the beta! If this game is anything like CoH Ill be picking it up for sure!:bounce:

It's a far smaller scale than CoH, and offers much more interaction with your units such as directly controlling them. (moving, shooting, driving, etc)

Super ****ing excited for this demo, been a fan of the original game for a long time. Not to mention it was a huge surprise, we expected a demo at the end of summer AT BEST, and now they go and give us one in the middle of July. ****ing awesome.

i recommend this demo, it looks polished, it recognized my widescreen mode automatically, it's like a mix of rts (not as frantic) and commandos (not as complex).

Graphics stand up just fine, control is pretty fluid. You can control a full squad or individuall soldier, you can even take manual control of each soldier and move him with your wasd+mouse setup for some funtime.

There is multitude of other options and features, such as ammo; your soldier can run out of ammo, u can go prone, walk, run, crouch. U can position character just around the corner for better defense. You can give them orders to fire freely, to wait until they are fired upon. cease fire, etc. You can pick up stuff, search through other objects for guns, ammo.
Each character has an inventory.

dunno about the save/load, i think they disabled the save during mission for the demo, otherwise it would be pretty hard; i got owned on the 2nd objective of the 1st mission pretty hard (damn MGs :/)

Just played. Blew me away at how much of an improvement it was over Soldiers. Graphics are great, sound is great. Effects are just amazing, especially explosions.

But to what matters, the gameplay. Intense fun to be had. The AI is really cool, and working with your squad is just plain fun. Compared to the first game this is such a massive step up. Plus, the missions are very dynamic. There is no outright "fail" if you mess one thing up. The objectives change and you have to make do with your mistakes.

Can't wait to play some more, there are tons of ways to approach the missions.

SHIT. It's out NOW!? Why the hell haven't I downloaded it? I have been one of the few fans of Soldiers: Heroes of World War II on these forums... me, vegeta... not sure who else. But that was a long time ago when I was really into it.

Must download this.

Is there any coop capability in the demo?

Played it. It's Soldiers but with better looks. It's still hard as fook tho. Pfff. Frontal attack on an enemy that has dug himself in = being pwnd very bad.

lame downloaded twice and it wont install, get an error message saying
Please do the following:
close any running programs
empty your temporary folder
check your internet connection
and try again

That's a common error. I don't know the exact solution but it has something to do with having the wrong version of the installer program, InstallShield I think.

Aha!

Installshield reports a 6001 error.

Fix:
1) Delete folder %commonprogramfiles%\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\0701

2) Download and install : http://support.installshield.com/kb/files/Q108322/Insta...dEngineUpdate701.exe

Game doesn’t launch because of d3dx_27.dll missing file
Fix:
1) Download & install the latest version of DirectX

Those are the 2 known problems for this demo. And there are the solutions.

Is it me or does this game offer an incredibly limited view compared to heroes?

I don't really have a problem with it. At least you can zoom in to more of a horizontal view in this unlike SHoWW2.

Also, I don't know if this was a bug or what, but in the first mission when I was trying to head back to the beach, I couldn't seem to get my whole squad to move. I selected the leader, which selects all of the squad, and told him to move to the beach, and he did, but the squad did not follow. And you can't select multiple squad members or it will just select the whole thing, and the problem persists. I had to individually order each soldier to move.

hmm this demo doesnt like my comp, i got to the load screen and it crashed, it crashed xp infact, i got a blue screen with white text saying windows had to be closed to prevent further damage, a video driver problem perhaps?

How about the damage the user can cause after being unable to play the game? They haven't thought about that, have they?
