Facts about venezuela

Do you really have a cool public transportation system?

So were all the points presented accurate? I have little experience in Venezuelan politics, so I'm easily manipulated on this issue. That video gave me a basic understanding. Could you post a "roadmap" of what has happened recently in Venezuela? I have read about it, etc, but you know much more than anyone here, so...

Local politics for instance. How does his presidency affected you or your family through the last few years? In positive things? Negative things? Or is he as big a screw-up domestically and he is internationally?

There was a Venezuelan family i stayed with in the US, who's relative visited during the previous elections (from Venezuela :p).
She was scared and most likely not able to go back, because she was a Nurse, and she voted for the opposition and not Chavez.
She got fired. Now, from what I've heard this was normal, and even on Wiki there's statements from government companies supporting Chavez and forcing their workers to vote Chavez or leave.
Is this true according to what you've seen?

Plan Bol?var 2000 (launched February 27, 1999) was the first of the Bolivarian Missions enacted under of administration of current Venezuelan President Hugo Ch?vez. The plan involved around 40,000 Venezuelan soldiers involved in door-to-door anti-poverty activities, including mass vaccinations, food distribution in slum areas, and education. The program also transported thousands of poor and ill Venezuelans at cost by military cargo planes and helicopters, as a means of alleviating their domestic travel expenses.
In an October 2002 interview, President Ch?vez stated that:
"My order was: "Go house to house combing the terrain. The enemy. Who is the enemy? Hunger." And we started it on February 27, 1999, ten years after the Caracazo, as a way of vindicating the military. I even used the contrast and I said: "Ten years ago we came out to massacre the people, now we are going to fill them with love. Go and comb the terrain, look for misery. The enemy is death. We are going to fill them with bursts of life instead of gun shots of death." And, in truth, the answer was really beautiful. While we, the politicians, were engaged in the political struggle, 40,000 soldiers were on a campaign to attend to the health of the people; opening roads with military engineering equipment; flying passengers in military planes to the most poor areas, charging them at cost."
What an evil man

Don't be silly Vince.

Amenesty International is only valid when refering to capitalist countries.

Jesus Christ that's harsh.

he would had say the same

yeah
if you work for something related to goverment, and dont support chavez you are out

also you should note that days before the last elections,in the tv everytime someone made a interview whit a representative of something of the goverment (minister of this and that)to know about the plans of chavez and stuff like that and they allways mentioned something related to chavez being victorious

one example was a interview whit a lawer(sp?) of someone acussed of I dont remenber exactly what, and the lawer sayd "the trial will continue after the elections, which you know who will be the winner" and is true,he said that, everytime someone related to the goverment mentioned the words "president" or similiar,a victory praiser coment was followed

Why does people keep voting on him, despite that he's obviously trying to turn Venezuela into a dictatorship?

I doubt it.

The main reason is that he tricked the poor into voting in him by claiming to fight poverty.

if you knew then why did you ask :S. lol dont mean to come across as being an ass or anything its just funny.

one thing to note

in population we exceed the 20 millions (not sure) in the last elections a amount of around 10 millions voted, around 50 pro chavez votes, the rest tot he other canditates, which was something stupid cuz it would hav been better if the oposition just put one single canditate

also in the previous refendum there was stuff that showed a possible manipulation of votes, for example that in diferent voting post the anti-chavez option got in various post the same amount of votes, meaning a possible manipulationg cuz that looked impossible, since the carter center sayd didnt say a thing then no investigations occurred

and them a great of worriyng felt trough the whole country and thats is the principal reazon of why people didnt voted, cuz it was going to be obvious that the votes where going to be manipulated, considering that everything goverment related is under control of chavez followers

one thing that makes me glad is that the whole chavez campaign was saying that there was going to be 10 millions vote for him,but the total of chavist votes was around 5 millions

and offcourse chavez allways that "the people voted blablabla" he allways use everything to autoproclaim himself

This whole thing sounds strangely similar to the previous elections held over here hmmm...

I should start a Facts About Holland thread, people think all we do is drink beer and use drugs... uhh... welll.. nevermind

I heard that Chavez is getting the go ahead to rule by absolute decree.

So an Enabling Act in effect.

Among the revisions, Chavez has said he is seeking an end to presidential term limits, which would allow him to run again for the presidency in December 2012.

How dictatorships begin, with the fall of reason and the pursuit of overworked, outdated ideals.

Yeah, remember Milosovich, Stalin... even Hitler, they all claimed to be Socialists.
