fail to load, return to dtop

I bought the game a few hours ago. Installed it, everything. I played HL2 and decided to check out CSS. When I launch game from steam it goes to the load screen for about 15 seconds, then returns to the desktop. If anyone has an answer to my problem I'd really appreciate it. thanks.

I tried switching my DVD reader. . . Didnt work, tired the patch nothing still.. I can't figure this out!!!!
