Failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8::LockIndexxBuffer

Each time I try to go on any of my steam games like HL2 /garrys mod / CS:S

I get this error Failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8::LockIndexxBuffer


Please reply and help me how to fix this (I am a bit of a noob so please explain so I can understand)

Try running the game in DirectX 8.1. mode:

Left-click on the Steam tray icon.
Select "Games".
Click on the "My Games" tab.
Right-click on the game that you want to run in DX8 mode.
Select "Properties".
Click on the "General" tab.
Click on the "Set Launch Options" button.
Put in the window box: -dxlevel 81
Click "OK".
Click "Close".

I just tryed what you said on the game empire (steam game)
it still says Failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8::LockIndexxBuffer
