Im building a computer for a friend, it has a Elitegroup K7S5A motherboard, when I hook it all up and hit the power button nothing happens, not even the power supply turns on.
Everything is hooked up correctly, there are spacers underneath the motherboard, the power switch is hooked up in the right spot, the power connecters is in the right slot on the motherboard, ive tested two power supplies with it (I know one works) its plugged into the wall and the outlet is on.
im sure the cases power switch is in the right spot to, its in the spot where it says on the manual, and Ive tried it in every other spot.
Is it a faulty motherboard? How do I know if it is?

Perhaps its the case's power button not making contact with whatever sends the "on" signal. That, or perhaps you might be plugging the power switch with the negative and positive reversed, but I'm sure you checked that out. Also, this might be a very stupid question, but is the power supply actually on? Like that switch on the PSU itself? Again, just making sure.

it sounds like the motherboard is faulty.

Firstly, stop randomly trying the switch in places it shouldn't go.

I read recently which connectors to short on the ATX plug to get a power supply to spin up with a motherboard connected, alas I forget. In the mean time take the new power supply and try it in your computer. If the processor or ram was bust then the computer would still power on but a knackered motherboard would stop it.

Without meaning to sound patronising you have checked that the wall socket is turned on the rocker switch on the power supply is too?

It doesn't matter which way the power button goes on, by the way. It's just a button that closes a circuit when you push it.

Yeah, thats what I meant. Perhaps it ain't making that contact. I just don't know how to say things sometimes.

Is the power supply on? There's a little black on/off switch on the back.

did you by any chance make sure that the cord is good?
