Valve announced today Bethesda Softworks' highly anticipated title, Fallout? 3, is now available for pre-purchase via Steam. Fallout 3 features one of the most realised game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland. Some wise words from Gabe himself:
"Fallout 3 is one of the most important PC launches of 2008. Last year, we were able to deliver major releases such as Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 to the millions of gamers connected to Steam. With Fallout 3 added to the line up of great titles coming to Steam, this year promises to be an even better holiday season for Steam gamers."
Steam really is attracting some of the largest releases in the PC market now, it's quite a feat. Fallout 3 is available from the 31st October and available to pre-order at the price of $49.99. For more information see here.

Holy crap they did it.

Also: FarCry 2 is now available in Europe and Austrailia, a first for Ubisoft on steam.

WHAT?! So Ubisoft just wait till after release date to release FC2, I have it on disc now. :( But it has a cool metal case I guess. Still, this is amazing, hopefully they'll do it to their whole range.

Is Fallout 3 worth getting? Heard mixed reviews.

Exact same thing happened to me, got the steelbook this morning, then this, total piss take, lol.

I'm already getting this for ?25 from play.com so it seems like a bit of a ripoff.

The following was missing from the Game Details section:
3rd-party DRM: SecuROM™
5 machine activation limit
The last 2 games I've purchased made me sad.

So FarCry 2 has DRM limit?

Yes, I mean you can unuse one of your keys if your gonna reformat or whatever, but its still a pain in the arse considering the pirates just snap that part off, It acctully makes me wanna use a nocd crack, on a game I own!

The pound is pretty weak against the dollar atm, after tax it would be about 38 quid through Steam Atm. I'm going to have to go with getting it off of Play or Amazon tbh although I'd prefer it through Steam....

From off the top of my head: Bioshock, Crysis, Crysis: Warhead, Crysis: Deathmatch (whatever it's called), and Far Cry 2 are the current games with SecuROM.

Can't wait for this to unlock. I wonder if we'll be able to preload before it's released?

All recent EA games have the SecuROM DRM.

Personally as for the whole FC2 vs Fallout 3 I'm not getting FC2 but I will most likely preorder Fallout 3. Anyone knows if the $49 preorder price is lower than the US/Canada in store price?

Also this game unlocks on the 28 not 31 as this post says.

I highly doubt it's less than $49 in any retail stores... maybe online though. I wouldn't be surprised if it's $59.99 a lot of places, especially for the console versions.

There is a Fallout 3 poster on the bus shelter outside my house.

Don't think I'm getting this :S Have a diehard Fallout fan in my school group, and he's been shrugging harder and harder, until finally giving up a few weeks ago. For him, this seems to be the death of Fallout, and his attitude has infected me :|

Going to wait a year, and buy it at discount price I think, unless someone tells me it's awesome :)

Fallout died long ago, with the cancellation of Van Buren.

From comments I've seen the game feels very much like Oblivion with guns, and the RPG and FPS elements are very well done. Apparently the world is a bit smaller than Oblivion. I'm sure this game is gonna get tons of reviews a day or 2 after release so you can see then.

If this thread descends into the usual barrel of Fallout manure, each and everyone of you involved in it will be banned.

It's good to see that the 2 games (FC2 and fallout3) are on Steam but it hate the fact that the price has been inflated for Australia (and Europe).

Far Cry 2: US: $49.95USD
Far Cry 2: AU: $54.95USD (~90AUD atm, same if not a bit higher then retail)

Fallout 3: US: $49.95USD
Fallout 3: AU: $69.95USD (~115AUD, at least $20-$30 more then retail).

It seems that some companies don't want to get any sales from Europe/Australia.

I think I'm gonna try to pick up the Survival Edition (Pipboy 3000 alarm clock plus lunchbox plus Pipboy bobblehead figurine anyone?)

I can't remember if it's a US exclusive, though. Might try to pick it up on import or pay extortionate postage for it. :/

I hope im not too dissapointed with this game. Its the most-hyped game of the year. COD4 was the most hyped game last year and when i finally played it, it fell very short for me, mainly because the rediculous hype it recieved. FAllout 3 is going down the same road but i hope the result is better, because this does look like an awesome game, but so many people dont realize theres sooo many other games to be 'goo goo ga ga' about...

The Price in Aussie dollars is faaaarking ridiculous.

That's right. Sorry for Steam but european retail versions are often cheaper, and I am not going to buy on ditigal distribution if retail is more convenient. I can do without box and printed manuals only if it's actually *cheaper*. The contrary is pure madness, in my opinion.
