Five people were killed Friday in Hindu-Muslim rioting and police gunfire after riots broke out during a general strike to protest the Rev. Jerry Falwell calling the founder of Islam a terrorist. Forty-seven others were injured.

So where was the white house on this? They seem to be extremely upset with Newsweek, where was the outrage here about one of their supporters?

This shows that even if your not in a nternet forum, you can be attacked for anything you say.

newsweek should think before publishing something so ridiculous.

stop newsweek.

they caused people to die too

Falwell's Anti-Islam comments cause 5 people to die

I would say that it was the rioters stupid reaction to the comments that caused people to die.

falwell needs to be drawn and quartered like the religious nutjob he is. I'd like to remind you all that it was falwell who said that gays were responsible for 9/11

"During a discussion about whether this crisis might bring revival to America, Jerry Falwell said God may have allowed what the nation deserved because of moral decay and said Americans should have an attitude of repentance before God and asking for God's protection. He specifically listed the ACLU, abortionists, feminists, gays, and the People For the American way as sharing in the blame."

falwell like any radical fundamentalist is dangerous and should be dealt with

he actually said gays were responsible?

wow..

I'm sry Falwell may be a moron. But those killings were in no way his fault. In fact they just proved him right. They killed 5 of their own people protesting someone that called the founder of their religion a terrorist!! People I'm drowning in irony here.

So you will say the same about newsweek?

Yes, the stupid reaction of the rioters are to blame for the deaths. Obviously that doesn't exonerate Newsweek at all.

EDIT:

Clearier way of putting it:

Yes, the stupid reaction of the rioters are to blame for the deaths. But this doesn't mean that Newsweek should be let off for putting out a very incorrect story.

so I suppose you Falwell isn't exonerated either?

well to be fair it's not just muslims who kill fellow muslims ...look at Kent State massacre as an example. Soldiers fired on unarmed students killing 4

There's nothing for him to be exonerated from. It's not illegal to take bollocks. A lot of this forum would have been arrested if it was.

Whereas, Newsweek published an incorrect story. Newspapers and magazines aren't meant to do that.

OK, so newsweek isn't exonerated but Falwell is because it is not illegal to calls people of Islam faith terrorists but somehow it is illegal to make a mistake in reporting? Thanks for your post, I just wanted to point out the hypocracy that is the Bush supporter.

There is a difference between "Hello, this is my stupid opinion" and "Hello, this is true and we have evidence". I didn't say it was illegal to make a mistake in reporting. I'm talking about them accepting that the story was false, and then making sure it doesn't happen again.

EDIT: And it's nice of you to attack my opinion by calling me a "Bush supporter".

bottom line: falwell needs a swift kick to the gonads

Yes it is nice because you won't admit this is hypocracy at its greatest. Bush is a very close ally to Falwell. When Falwell said this Bush sat silent, when Flatcher was asked about the comment his response was "people are aware of our policies on Islam" and that was it. When someone tries to investigate the administration, something that we need in this democracy, and they have to back down themselves (remember they admited this, noone else found it) they are viciously attacked by the white house to put pressure on any other reporter that is out to investigate them. Do you not see a pattern here of the white house doing everything they can to limit free media? I am about to post a letter in a new post, please read it and join me for further discussion there.

You're assuming I know anything more about Falwell other that he's this guy who said something stupid. I don't. He said something stupid and people rioted and killed people because of it. He didn't force them to riot.

I am not defending Falwall because he's an ally of Bush. I'm defending him because I really believe that people should be allowed to say stupid things whenever they want. It's alright if you don't agree with his opinion, but to if you riot over it and kill people, it's your fault.

Also, why am I a hypocrite? Please explain. And, who is Flatcher?

EDIT: And I'd like to clear something up, I blame the rioters over the Newsweek article for the deaths as well, but Newsweek should be more responsible for what they publish.

You are ignoring the hypocracy in this case. What you said was that if a Bush supporter says something and people die because of it it is not that person's fault but the fault of Islamic extremist and then turn around and say that if newsweek makes a mistake and people die it is newsweek's fault.

Flatcher was the press secretary (the guy that defends Bush because Bush can't do it himself) at the time this happened. The current press secretary is Scott McClellan, apperantly the other guys weren't spinning things well enough.

I didn't say that Newsweek caused the deaths. I said that the rioters stupid reaction to the story caused the deaths, but Newsweek should be more careful about what they publish.

When I said the Newsweek shouldn't be completely exonerated, I said it because I knew that people would think that by saying "The rioters are to blame" then I would be saying "Newsweek didn't do anything wrong". I'm saying that both are wrong.

OK, then I took it wrong and I apologize. But you do admit that Falwell also was wrong, correct? Remember, what Newsweek printed has been reported by verious other sources in the media as far back as 2002 this is nothing new. The administration simply used this to put pressure on reporters.

If somone had called christianity terrorism you would be blaming the wacko righties for killing people. But its this guys fault for calling Islam terroism? Religion is important, but killing over it is one of the dumbest things anyone could do. Its people who would that made the world the way it is now.

Words dont kill people, irrational people with guns kill people. Its obvious who to put the blame on here and it isn't newsweek or flawell (even though you should be really pissed at them both)

My point is, the blame should be on the people who did the shooting, and retards in posistions of power and influence should keep there mouths shut. Flawell and the Newsweek in this case.

Bingo. But keep in mind the white house doesn't see it that way. They think that newsweek is at fault for all of this (even though their own military advisors disagree) simply because they want pressure on the media. When Falwell said these idiotic things the white house was silent as they didn't want any pressure on the far whacko right that is their base.
