im not one that is usually for censorship, but i can't think of one positive or contributing post where this word was used. it just incites flames. :/ ive seen it censored on other sites with good results.

just a thought

I hate this word. Seriously. It's a stupid insult used by people against people who disagree with them.

I agree with you that "fanboy" is in almost all cases used as a negative term.

I'm not sure if censoring would be that good though, probably it'd just add a non-sense bunch of *'s in a certain post. And there are people who don't use fanboy in a negative or offensive way.

shuttup you stupid fanboy!!!

If there were a poll I would vote for removing/censoring it, and stfu should go too.

Next time someone calls someone else a "fanboy" just link them to this thread. Calling someone a "fanboy" is just something you say when you feel like insulting someone because they disagree with you when it comes to a specific game.

I wouldn't vote to ban it though, anyone who uses it will usually just prove to everyone that they aren't the greatest thinker in the world.

Fanboy is just a silly little word used by people that cant form proper arguements/cant see that while someone might like one thing alot but it doesnt mean they dont like other things.

Its also used by people for gigles...

I dunno what to do with it... Normally I just laugh to my self...

I don't understand censors in general. You usually know what the person said, so having a "******" instead of "fanboy" really makes no sense to me. When you read it to yourself, don't you think "fanboy?" Will you be less insulted if they say "You stupid f**boy!"

I mean, what is the difference? I can understand censoring some "bad" words around here, so they aren't on the site, but when you just censor insults, especially ones that aren't even the slightest bit vulgar, you end up doing something that makes no sense.

Meh, just what I think :D

the language known as "1337" should be banned everywhere. any gay acronym, and anything else gay.

I'm not a big fan of the word, but I also don't condone censoring minor things like this. I voted no, but I'm not going to heart broken if it does eventually get censored.

Whether it is logical or not, filtering fanboy immediately makes me think that the group that does so are fanboys themselves... :s

Censoring is pointless. It takes the human brain no time at all to decode what word that is, according to length and context. I can't remember the last time a word that was censored had any affect on me reading the sentence as the person originally typed it.

Is shit a censored word? I guess I'll find out when I post this.

EDIT: Hey, shit isn't a censored word. Shit shit shit shit shit.

I don't think anything should be censored. But I do agree, 'fanboy' is the last resort of the loser of an arguement.

i usually dont either, but when it only leads to negativity and flames, it seems like a no brainer. its like parents disciplining children by not allowing them to do certain things. children will be children and they arent smart enough not to be. :/

at hardforum.com(hardocp forums), in the video card forum people would call each other nvidia or ati fanboys a lot get in huge flame fests.

after it was censored, these flamefests just didn't happen nearly as often because the *'s took the sting out of the word, and as a result there were more friendly and useful posts in the video card forum. many of those who used to primarily flame just left the forum leaving mostly good threads.

so yea, vote no if you don't want the forums to be a more friendly place :/

It seems rediculous to star out a word like 'fanboy'. People will simply step around it... "Fan Boy", "Phanboy", or use other terms that mean the same thing. Really, just ignore it, or report the post. It's simply not necessary if you act with a little maturity, even when other people don't.

you know that stepping around words that are starred out is a bannable offense right? ive seen people get banned that have done that. so thats not really an issue.

police aren't necessary if humans would just act with maturity. and we know how that ends.

I agree it's a useless word.
But censoring it is a little silly, since the word isn't really vulgar.
On second thought, maybe it is to some people.
Maybe the poll should be, "Is the word fanboy vulgar to you?", and then the censoring could be decided from that.

Can we also censor "Valve owes you nothing" ?

I hate that sequence of words infinitely more than fanboy!!

It's a very useful description for many people.

And people who use the word 'gay' in very wrong contexts should be stuck on the banned list imo.

the word fanboy has become derogitory(sp?), and at times it's really annoying when someone flames someone calling them a fanboy, but banning the word won't stop it, it's the attitude of the people posting that's the problem.

I agree. I get really tired of seeing the word "gay" used in a negative context all the time.

One thing that really annoys me (how sad) is when people replace the 'y' with an 'i' to spell 'fanboi'

Ooooooo hip (!)
