Okay, registered at fanfic.net a few days ago. Now, I am trying to upload a document. When i try to do that, it loads for a minute then the screen goes blank as if nothing happened. The file didn't upload either. Anyone else have this problem. It is very frustrating.
 
my old roommate would spend all day looking at that site then porn then back to fanfiction.

Actually, no offense to anybody who reads or writes fan fiction. It just seems like the most I come across is wierd sexual crap where Captain Kirk fingerbangs Picard's asshole, or something. And my brother's into a lot of fanfic, but I just don't see why he holds interest in it. Personally, I can only sustain myself on canon.
 
You just have to find the good ones. I was looking through the firefly one a few days ago and its FULL of all these "couple pairings" and "mal/simon oooo sex sex." FULL of them.
 
Well, I can't remember who said it but bear in mind the truism: 95% of anything is crap.

There is good fan fiction out there - just because a writer wants to work within the paradigms set out by someone/something else (or even subvert them) doesn't mean that the end result is necessarily going to be adversely affected. I mean, there are a few advantages to it. Not least that it provides a justification for writing within the universe of some film, book or game that you loved and wanted to emulate, or at least explore.
 
Yeah, that's exactly the kind of stuff I run across for pretty much any game or show I like.

That really is brilliant.

The guy's got the 'unnervingly well-written erotic fanfic' thing down really well - especially the use of 'marine flag' for penis. :laugh:

Not that I know anything about the conventions of the erotic fanfiction genre. Ahem.
 
I used fanfiction to hone my writing skills. It's sort of like fiction writing with training wheels. It's alot easier than writing original fiction, because then its very easy to maintain a beleivable and consistent world, since it was already created by another author. In original fiction, its very easy to contradict yourself, and you'll find yourself looking back into your novel to find details and make sure you don't contradict a plot element.

The best fanfiction, in my opinion, finds new details in the original fiction, and expands in areas that were totally uncovered previously, introducing new charachters yet maintaining a beleivable fiction. There are some very terrible fanfictions though, and most of them are indeed quite awful, but every now and then you get a truly good writer, who is only using fanficiton as a stepping stone to more original ficiton.
 
You know, any proposed solutions to my "problem" would be nice.
 
They should ban girls under the age of 18 from uploading stories to fanfiction.net. Everytime I read a story from there, all of a sudden it becomes a romance story involving the antagonist. Then I look at the writers name and it's something like chichi_grl_91. ARGH.

To fix your problem... they said to try another browser.

Idk, I use ffnet and it never does that. I don't know what's going on...

It's crazy, though, most people who write fanfiction. There's YAOI going on in the PSYCHONAUTS section, which is very scarey because most characters in Psychonauts are under the age of 10 (i think).
 
I've not seen Half-Life erotic fanfiction, but I have seen hentai. It's really not healthy for the mind.
 
Hentai's not the same. Well, maybe in disgust terms, but at least half the time you can't understand it, so it doesn't have the same impact.
