Far Cry 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the hit action game is now available on Steam.
[br]</br>Far Cry 2 is now available to customers in North America for just $49.99, and UPDATE: Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Jealous.

Is it bad to spend all my severance pay from work on games this month? There are so many! ;(

Ubisoft you'd have so much more money if you let me and all the other UKer's buy your games! Help us, because if I can't have this on Steam, I'm not buying!

Bit daft that. Why don't they just have it available globally?! There's a logical reason I'm sure but it eludes me at this time. I think someone posted in a thread recently with the reasoning behind this. In the mean time might just have to buy it ....... on DVD! Imagine that. It's like the dark ages :naughty:

Play.com = 24.99 Pounds
cdwow = 22.99 Pounds

I buy very few games not on Steam. Having the automatic updates and integration with Steam is so much nicer and easier. Regardless of price...I want the Steam version.

I know what you mean, I just love having everything in one place. Rather than Steam, Retail Box, Direct2Drive or whatever.

Likewise, but I've relented and ordered this from Play as its irresistibly cheap (hopefully should turn up tomorrow). I'm not seeing this as a game I can't live without on Steam tbh. Hopefully Ubi will see the insanity of their ways and open up their games catalogue to European customers at some point. They have quite a bit of back catalog I'd like to acquire.

I know what you mean. I was sceptical about Steam at first. But now it makes so much sense. The update system is superb. Without doing anything your always on top with the latest update. It definitely seems like the way forward hence the popularity of Steam.

I pre-ordered it (because I am in the US. WHERE IS YOUR SUPERIORITY NOW UK?!) and I downloaded it while I was at work. Ive only gotten to play for a about an hour or so, but its damn sweet.

I want it too :( Why can't we Europeans get some love :'(

I mean, they could just make an EU version. The only reason I can see for doing this, is that we Europeans pay a lot more for games, and they don't want to loose money from selling it with cheap US prices.

Absolutely. I only really game on the PC through Steam nowadays.

God dammit Ubisoft, what the hell?

Played it for a few hours now, I didn't get it on Steam 'cause of living in the UK (nice one Ubisoft, you idiots) It's a pretty damn sick game, seems to have taken the best bits of many other games. My only complain so far is that EVERYONE seems to be your enemy. You’re driving along just going to the shop or something then suddenly a jeep practically drives into you and unloads a clip. Not to mention every checkpoint you come to it isn't a case of pay them or get shot, it's simply you get shot if they even see you. I thought there was going to be a bit more choice on whom your enemies are but oh well, apart from that it’s very fun.

If you want retail Far Cry 2 in Steam, you do Games -> Add a non-Steam game to My Games list...

As far as updates go, is it really that hard to Google "far cry 2 patch"?

Seriously stop whining guys.

Nobody's "whining", just flummoxed at Ubisofts non-commitment to releasing through Steam outside the US.

Really?! I never knew that... :|
Jokes aside, I do that with all my games that I don't get through Steam, people are just annoyed because its a stupid move by Ubisoft and really doesn't make any sence why they would not release world wide.

You can buy FC2 from a czech IP. I assume that the game is available worldwide on Steam now.

So is it worth 50 bucks?

I find the real time day/night cycle pretty interesting as well as the space you can explore.

It's a fun game, if you put some intelligence into how you play it. If you try driving everywhere, you'll end up in fire fights everytime you hit a checkpoint, but if you're smart you'll use other means to get about most of the time. Also much like Stalker, when entering combat you want the advantage to be yours, so it pays to figure out your strategy before entering combat. Certainly worth buying imho.

Watch the GameTrailer review of it, I would say it's pretty spot on. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41939.html

It is an incredible game and really good fun to play but I feel that you are a bit trapped even though you are in this open world. The world in fact isn't as big as people made out it to be, and the choice of which faction to work for is more just to do with jobs as it seems everyone wants you dead. I didn't like getting to checkpoints and being shot at as soon as I drive past, I thought (like one of the trailers showed) that you would have a choice to either fight or pay your way through. The fighting feels a bit console to me for a FPS, I don't mean that in a rude way but it doesn't have the flow of a PC FPS so I feel it was made more for the console. Overall, like most games it has been overrated and hyped up a bit too much but still it's an incredible game, if not just a little repetitive.
