Far Cry has anti-aliasing options in the game... but my ATi control panel has Anti-Aliasing and Ansiotropic Filtering on (max) by default.... I want Far Cry to have max AA and no AF ... so would I have to change the ATi control panel every time I want to play FarCry?

Which has the final say on Anti-Aliasing if the settings conflict? FarCry or the ATi control panel?

It's all confusing.

not sure but I think as long as you set them to "aplication preference"(or something like that) in the ati setting then far cry's settings will take precidence

Hrmm, I don't have problems with my X800 on FarCry, I have 4xaa and 8xaf...no issues at all.

Way to read the thread there, disturbed.

Do it both ways. Set the ati panel how you want and try, then try app pref in the ati panel and use far cry's controls. Tell us what happens.

Nothing happens....Not bragging about my card....jesus christ why would I? Sorry I got better things to do then brag to people I have an X800....please :|

The idea is if you set AA/AF from an application's perferences, those take effect only if the driver is set to listen for Application Preference. If you set it to whatever via your driver control panel globally, it should be on that regardless of whatever you select in Far Cry. Try turning it off in the app but leaving it on in the drivers and then loading it up and seeing if it's on.

disabling it in the ati control panel and enabling it in the game works, as does enabling it in both, as does enabling it in the panel but not in the game... but if it's the game doing the anti-aliasing and not the panel, is it faster? (as it may be optimised for the game?)

I don't know.

Well I got the anti-aliasing sorted, but when I enter the caves I get these random coloured shapes appearing... they are both vectored and anti-aliased, so I dont think they are graphics artifacts caused by an overheating GPU... so what the hell are they?

Not sure what the problem is, they look good ...

No, ATI has'nt been optmized for the FC engine ...you might see multicouloured tree's if you have shadows set to max...its a problem of behalf of Crytek not ATI.... and that problem you got could be another problem on behalf of Crytek..

With my card (x800pro) ive never seen any of these problems but they do exsist. Its been proven.

I have everything set to ultra high, so you may be on to something there... I'll knock everything down to 'high' and see if it still happens.

Thanks

There is shader issues with the X800 cards for FarCry if you guys didn't know :(

Those graphics problems are supposed to be fixed if you set shadows to "medium." Though I haven't tried that solution yet. Patch 1.2 better fix those problems.

Yeah, I just hate running medium shadows though, also since they are messed up they lag sorta (high, very high shadows) :-/ so I tried medium works better....Crytek isn't making such a great name for themselves for this first game :(

The 1.2 patch is supposed to fix the IQ problems with ATI cards.

However, its not out.

I guess im lucky, i run max shadows with my ati card and never see any problems :p

Oh didn't you read one of the reviews? Supposedly it doesn't "making ati rendering useless" something along those lines :frown:

Nah this is all rumour...it does lower the ATI's performance but hardly anything worth getting depressed about. 1 - 5 fps.

I hope, you need to read the FarCry forums, plagued with dumbasses talking shit about X800's because no SM3.0 support. :hmph:

Yeah i occaisionly (sp?) take a look on the FC forums...im registered too but forgot my username/pw anyway.

This is why i dont like the FC forums http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=452106891&m=120101425

I find that amusing but if you read most of the first pages reponses it is pretty sad...its only a patch, it is barely changing anything really..the game isnt broken but isnt perfect but is very playable..the only reason for anyone to get bothered about this patch are the people who have dedicated their free time to make a mod for it..not these half wit fools saying he should be banned and at INA you would have a banned IP ...how sad is FC forums. :|

Yeah, the moderator "kimi" isn't that great either, she is slow, very slow :-/

Antialiasing= The devil :hmph:

I can't stand playing a game with 0x AA. I can stomach 2X but either 4X or 6X I'm happy with. I don't like the idea of seeing individual pixels, it just erks me :P

I mean, Mario Kart 64 looks so much better with AA on :smoking:
