does anyone have an idea of how much more demanding, graphically, will halflife 2 be compared to far cry. my system specs are p4 2.26 ghz, 512 ram, and a saphirre 9600 xt ultimate 128 mb, and i can run far cry at high settings. do u think i can get medium settings for halflife 2, or will the game run crappy on on my computer, thanks :smoking:

It should run at high. Half life 2 will be far more optimized than far cry

All I can say is from what we know HL2 will be better optimised for it's graphics than FarCry was.

is there honestly a big difference between the 9600 xt ultimate and the 9800 pro. i wm just hoping that the 9600 can last me for the next 2 years or so. i am not sure which one to buy. i am on a tight budget, so unless it is really essential, i wont get it. thanks in advance

Less demanding and better optimized. I was just playing CS:Source (Awesomeness at its best) and i've got a 9600 Pro, on Far Cry with about 6 people on the screen and on Medium settings it runs at about 24FPS, on Cs:Source with 8 people on the screen and a firefight in progress with all settings on high it runs at 40-50 FPS. The animations looks kickass too

I dont think its a case of 'Optimisation' here:

Far Cry does a terrific job of rendering HUGE amounts of texture data in the same instance. Just look at how far you can wander in a Far Cry Level.

Half Life 2's levels will be more confined than Far Cry's and will need a let less system resources!

Your specs are fine...dont sweat it! :D

Of coruse it'll run much better on HL2. Far Cry graphics arent as good as HL2 and people still say HL2 has outdated graphics. Thats just crap.

Few games NEED 1GB, but having 1GB adds fluidity to the game. In FarCry, with 512MB, going into large rooms, causing great explosions, invoking large A.I. computations, caused in small jerks of the game, which could get annoying if there are many of them in sequence. With 1GB, the gameplay is much smoother, plus you get higher framerates (nothing compared to the increase you would get by upgrading videocard though).

does anyone know if there is a big difference between the 9600 xt ultimate and the 9800 pro?

Yeah, about £20 and the 9800 Pro craps all over the 9600 XT.

i think, you can play the game in 1024*768 in high details, but not in a higher resultion or higher details. You need a x800 to play in 1600*1200 with AMD64 3200+. I know, because i have play doom3 and half life 2 have a better grahpik.

i have a 2.0ghz intel pentium, 256mbddr, GF4MX440 64 mb, anyone knows is HL2 running at my pc, or not, and does it need pixelshader bigger than 1.1 that is my biggest fear if HL2 needs bigger than thats a little problem(new graphics card!!!)

anyway on my pc far cry made the game like slideshow :rolling: , but only in gunfights and places where the picture moved faster :|

some day I will hunt everyone down who made a HL² VS thread and shoot them in the face
