Farcry 1.3 patch is OUT!

That's right boys and girls. . . Farcry is the first game on the block to run realtime HDR. I'll try to post some screenies after i download it.

I've seen the HDR and i must admit the screenshots make it look quite crap but if you watch the video's it looks pretty amazing in motion. I just wish i bought the nvidia over the ati now. ATI has something called DXTC5 normal map compression in this patch (3dc didn't make it in) and to enable that you type into console

HOW TO ENABLE HDR

Requirements:
Nvidia GeForce 6 card
DirectX 9.0C (included in SP2)
Nvidia 61.77 or later drivers
FarCry 1.3 patch

1. Set all Graphic settings to "Very High."
2. Anti-Aliasing must be disabled.
3. Add:"r_hdrrendering 7" "e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 100.000000" "r_TexNormalMapCompressed 1" with the quotes to your farcry shortcut. For example:
"C:\Program Files\FarCry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" "r_hdrrendering 7" "e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 100.000000" "r_TexNormalMapCompressed 1"
4. I recommend lowering your resolution to 1280x1024 or 1024x768 depening on CPU & GPU core speed. 1280x1024 is more appropriate for high speed athlon 64 CPUs with 6800U (or 6800GT @ 6800U) while 1024x768 works better for P4 CPUs with 6800GT @ stock speeds.

Only the nvidia GF6 cards can use HDR atm. ATI is set for 2005 but i don't know when in 2005. If all games coming out now start supporting HDR the ATI's will get pounded into the ground so bad. I got an X800 too

Also check the screens of it, it makes all the difference, infact FC looks pretty bland (colour-less) to me now when its not on. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=452106891&m=3621005432

Nice difference. I haven't even bought FarCry yet, and I've got the wrong GPU for the game anyways .. Tough luck.

You can do HDR on the 24bit ATI cards... but Far Cry isn't exactly a game that has a history of fully supporting ATI cards/features. It's got the ****ing "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" logo plastered on it. Who do you expect them to favor? Just look at 3Dc, it only requires an extra couple of lines in the normal mapping shaders but they didn't bother with it...

¹ Do you not remember how HL2 was going to have HDR for ATI cards?
