Around here at least, those different coloured bands with different charities on them (Livestrong, Poverty etc) are becoming very popular, and thus alot of people are buying them. The thing is, alot of people are just buying them to fit in, and look cool instead of supporting charity, they could be supporting terrorism for all they care. Now my question to you lot is, is this ok? I mean in the end, the charity is getting more money and popularity, but no recognition. They may not even go to charity now I think about it. What do you think?

If it goes to charity let them buy them in their thousends I say :P

Ive not got one. Not even looked at them. I'd rather just give a quid or two when i see a collection box. Which is about every other day neway...

At first I thought you were talking about music bands...Thought your post was weird.

I wondered what those bands were about. I've just got a couple of direct debits set up going to the British Red Cross and a friend who works for YWAM.

Youth With a Mission.

They go round helping people basically. I think at the moment shes working with homeless people in San Francisco, but that could have changed. They need to pay their own way, so they try to get people to sponsor them.

yeah i see them everywhere, all my friends wear one..

i jus havnt got round to it yet..

u think this could be a scam?

Whether or not they're doing it for the right reasons doesn't really matter. The charity still gets the money, so it's fine with me.

everyone and there grandma at my school has one. It's quite annoying because many of them didn't give an everyloving **** about the needy until this fad. **** them. Sure it's a good cause, but it sucks that we need fads for giving to the less fortunate to become big. We live in a sad sad world.

Everyone wears them here.. even the teachers. they're not classed a jewellery in school so people are wearing about 5. Meh, it's for charity

You shouldn't get so worked up about it. The fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter where the money is coming from, so long as the charities get to use it. Its simply human nature to not think about other people in far flung lands. I have close friends who in other countries, and I must say that I don't even think about them much during the day. I don't really see these bands as being anything bed really. They may not be perfect, but think of it this way...

It makes people feel good about themselves, and it helps those in need. What more could you want?

Yeah, that's my initial thought too. However it doesn't deal with people's lazy attitude to charities - people gave incredibly well at the time of the tsunami, which is great, of course. However they may never give any money to any charity ever again; but I suppose that's preferable to not giving any money to any charity ever.

I seem to remember hearing that, whilst Band Aid 20 rose a lot of money, it essentially shot a lot of other charities in the foot because people felt vindicated; they'd done "their bit" and there was nothing else for them to do for a long time.

Well what does annoy me is people buying them and then selling them on ebay for lots of cash. But either way I don't care

Who cares? if the moneys going to a good cause...but the fact they sell for like £12 on eBay is ridiculous

i just hope if the UK were ever poor one day, and india and africa were the richest, would they give money to us? .. hope so..
