Top 5 favortie games
1. Half-Life 2 The Most beautifully designed and paced game of any genre, ever made. Its full impact will only become clear down the line, but It's certain now to me that this is the most fun I've had with any game for a hell of a long time.
2. System Shock 2 The last few levels felt kind of rushed, but overall a solid gold experience. Excellent atmosphere and design for the most part, and the best example of RPG elements slotted into a FPS.
3. Homeworld (Excellent story and presentation. I bit long in the tooth now, but it was a major innovator for its time and so goddamned fun)
4. Final Fantasy Tactics (Took me ages to get it - fsking Europe - but it was well worth the wait. Fantastic tactical battling mixed with a heavy dose of FF RPG stylings. Like all the best presentational aspects of the FF games, given a battle system that isn't so goddamned shallow and boring).
5. UT2004 (The best £17.99 I've ever spent on a game. So many things out of the package, but the after sales in form of mods and maps is just phenomenal. I had to reinstall it when It was taking up 1/5th of my HDD. Onslaught is perhaps overrated, but it's not like there isn't plenty on offer to replace it.)

Best new game:
UT2004 It was released within the last year... ^^

Most underated game:
System Shock 2 (though TBH, it has now appeared on so many "underrated" lists that it's actually no longer as underated as it once was)

Oh, and just for the record, Most overrated game:
Halo, Halo, Halo, Halo, Halo, Halo and Halo (Just to emphasise that I don't like your Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V skills, Bungie).

My favorite games:
-Half-Life1/Opposing Force/Blueshift
-Half-Life 2
-Deus Ex 1 (DX2 sucked)
-Unreal Tournament
-Max Payne

Favourite Games:

1. Unreal Tournament/UT2k4
Now occupying 13.5Gb on my Hard Drive, UT2k4 has consistently brought me hours of enjoyment over the many months I've been blessed with possessing it. Whether it's a lazy game of DM against bots or a 5 hour online battle for node superiority in ONS, Ut2k4 always has something to cater for my needs. This is without consideration of Red Orchestra, as well, which is basically another game in itself.

2. Rome: Total War
The only word to describe R:TW is epic. The way it gets the adrenaline pumping through your body as you reach the starting moments of a 8000+ men war is something no other game can rival.

3. Half-Life 2
I needn't say anything, really.

4. Deus Ex
The pinnacle of RPG/FPS greatness, Deus Ex wove stunning atmosphere, a complex and interesting storyline, impressive combat setpieces and tense stealth moments into an ultimate gaming package. His vision is augmented.

5. Operation Flashpoint
Criminally underrated, Op Flash is a truly solid realistic combat shooter. As a refreshing change from arcade FPSs, Op Flash forced you to think before you shot, be it as a result of lack of friend and foe indicators, or because of the lack of surrounding cover and realisation that it's a battle that may not be won. I love it.

Best new game: Rome Total War

Most underrated game: Operation Flashpoint

Axyon please tell me more about why you liked operation flashpoint, cause I saw it getting 9+ from reviewers and when I played it I thought it was the most horrendous, unpolished, games ever, Just nothing felt right, and I can take some realistic gamaplay, I play AA a lot. But still the game got 9+ and a lot of people like it, so I am sure I'm missing soemthing, so just tell me you what impressed you the most, what missions were good, just everything you liked about it.

It's just the whole open-endedness and military authenticity of it. You really have to think before you do anything - you're dropped in the field with a watch, compass and map, and from then on you yourself have to work out where to go and what to do. One shot can kill, so you really end up going about things carefully (especially considering you can only save once a mission)... then again, that same shot could hit you in the arms or legs and you'd spend the rest of the mission not being able to use a gun properly or being forced to crawl everywhere. I'm sure that wouldn't appeal to a lot of people, but I think it's great.

The squad combat works really well too, the controls may be a little complicated for controlling your men, but after you get the hang of it it makes stuff so easy. What else can I say? The vehicles are awesome (and once again move and feel realistic), but the weapon and hand models are looking a little dated now.

The modability of the game is incredible as well, there's literally hundreds of quality user made vehicles, weapons, soldier types and maps out there.

Favourite mission? It's hard to tell, but the one that stands out the most is when you're escorting a convoy that gets destroyed by tank fire, and you're forced to bail out of the truck with your squad and reach an alternate extraction point that's a few miles away. The tension is incredible, as you desperately try to get there as fast as possible knowing that the soviets are out there looking for you.

I suck at making lists like this, I always forget some of the best ones. Oh well, I'll bite.

Some of my favorite games in no particular order:
Half-Life 2 -- Pretty obvious choice.
Fallout -- Best roleplaying game to date.
Gothic II -- Another good RPG. Interesting world with some cool exploring to do. Liked the combat as well, although it's an acquired taste :P
Jagged Alliance 2 -- Another oldish game, and another RPG. Fantastic combat, lots of depth.
Rome: Total War -- CHAAARGE!
Max Payne 2 -- One of the few shooters I actually played more than once (probably because it was short). Bullet time is just owns
Freedom Fighters -- Great soundtrack, some fun exaggerated cliches in the story and simple but satisfying gameplay. I have a weak spot for third person shooters.

Best new game: HL2, new because it's my most recent buy, and I'll be busy modding it for months to come.

Most underrated game: C&C Renegade. Its multiplayer demo got me into online gaming, in fact it was one of the first FPSes I played a lot.

And in closure the unofficial category of...
Most overrated game: Morrowind. If you look past the big pretty world there's really very little except for a shitty combat system and lame NPCs. I had already bought MW and all expansion packs when I figured this out though ;)

XCOM UFO Defense - Great realtime and turned based strategy. RPG elements and fully destructable terrain and buildings. Great Sci-fi game.

Star Control 2 - Great realtime space combat game. Only one I know of with realistic space flight physics. Great MP and great single player story.

Civilization 3 - Just the best strategy game of all time.

Far Cry - The best of the big three FPS games. Huge outdoor levels with indoor parts. Not nearly as linear as the other big three. Actually challenging unlike the other big 3.

Battlefield 1942/Desert Combat - Great mix of infantry and vehicle fighting. Helicopters, helicopters and more helicopters.

Most overated: Half Life 2 without any doubt at all. Simple, linear and boring.

1. WoW - Best game ever created.
2. Final Fantasy 8 - Best RPG ever!.
3. Far Cry - Best FPS ever.
4. Final Fantasy 7 - Nuff said.
5. Half Life - Another good FPS.

Best new game - WoW.

Most underated game - Doom3.

i think i may aswell put mine down, although people really have covered the greats here fairly easily.

In no order...

Rome : Total War... this game really is just wow.
Far Cry - most open ended game ever, much like Dues Ex
Baldurs Gate 2 - best rpg ever... just with long walking distances.
Dues Ex - rpg, stealthy greatness.
Half-life 2

Most overrated/hyped game - Doom 3
Most underrated game - Z (yes, the old Z... you know it. with the robot army.) i loved it.

forgot about desert combat for bf 1942, thats actually probably 2nd or 3rd on my list, ive had some amazing moments on that game. Every single time I play desert combat I lose track of the time and usually end up playing till like 3 am. Best moment on that game: jumping out of a helicopter on one of the urban maps, parashooting, and rpg-ing another helo on the way down to the roof of a building, where i then rained death from above.

Sorry, but you seriously need to get your head checked if you think Far Cry is more open-ended then Deus Ex. Seriously. There are 5 different ways of entering the Statue of Liberty in the first level alone. Not to mention different objectives that also determine the path you go. I bet you never found that massive MJ-12 hide out under Hells Kitchen?

I aint got nothing against Far Cry, i'm just saying.

Anyway, here ya go.

1. Deus Ex/ System Shock 2 - Its Deus Ex, most open-ended FPS ever made (thats right, more open-ended then Far Cry dag namit, and twice as long). And System Shock 2 is still the scariest game i've ever played, 6 years on it still creeps me out to listen to some of the PDA's.
2. Starcraft - Nuff said
3. Half-Life - Nuff said
4. Ninja Gaiden - Best fighting game ever made, and my favourite game of last year.
5.World of Warcraft - Awesome, awesome, awesome game. Best thing about it is there are never any load times, its always fun and challenging and rarely becomes repetitive.

Games that, though still great, could've been better :
Half-Life 2 : Best FPS i've played since the first game, but i can't go back and play it again because its just too easy.
Far Cry : Shit storyline mixed with good, but horribly glitched A.I always force me to always give up on this game halfway through. It would've taken 10 seconds to think up a more plausible storyline with more original enemies.
Rome Total War: Best RTS since Starcraft, but a bit repetitive ( i stress only a bit)
Halo 2 : The Love Bee's storyline would've made this game a whole lot better then its actual storyline. I mean, what the heck is that giant Venus Flytrap? The game was awesome, up until you returned to the Halo.

Halo an awesome game? the multiplayer was really good but the single player was hoooooorrible. A few good parts in there, and great AI but it was just so repetitive. Haven't played Halo 2 yet, but i heard it was the same case, crappy SP but awesome MP.

by tha way, anyone know when that deus ex movie is comin out? really lookin forward to it.
