More recently, I've fallen in love with the Lord of the Rings music. It's so transcedental to the film that you could listen to the music without the moving pictures and still feel the emotions. Tip of the hat to Howard Shore.
However, my all-time favorite is definitely Star Wars. Rarely in the 70's did a film decide not to use just small instrumentals with piano and go with the 100-piece London Symphony Orchestra instead, it was musical power at its best. Both operatic and moving, I think John Williams raised the bar set by Max Steiner's Gone with the Wind. Oh, and who can forget the Imperial March, come on. I simply loved it.
Honorary mentions go to James Horner's Titanic, simply splendid and so moving, his best work ever.
