What is yout personal favorite overlooked FPS?

Personally mine is THE WHEEL OF TIME. It had an innovative multiplayer mode and a good story to boot, plus it was using the latest Unreal Technology when it was released.

I remember having lan battles with my friends where you could place magical traps and position soldiers to guard your castle, plus all the spells you could use in combat made for some memorable battles. It was a truly unique game of its time. But the sales didn't quite match my enthusiasm.

TimeSplitters 2

Console FPS, sure.. but it was overlooked, shame too, good game

Halo. Everyone hated it on the PC. I loved it.

By overlooked, do you mean didn't sell enough or not recognized enough?

Not recognized enough. Like a game not praised by websites and the media.

27.89% Not recognized enough and 31.27% Not enough sales

Over looked? I think that game is far from over looked my friend.

System Shock 1, by FAR. Came out in 1995, had great storyline for that time, a lot of RPG elements, mixed with FPS.

Hmm… Diakatana! HA!

I liked Halo PC too! I dunno about Chaser though.... I didn't like the demo enough to try the full game...

Anyway, one of my favorite overlooked FPS would have to be Rainbow Six 3: Ravenshield.

It's not appreciated by enough gamers. It is realistic(no nuclear cs grenades), has great graphics, and intense gameplay(especially when the rest of your team is dead and there are still 4 tangos left), just not a large enough fanbase...

:E

Lies. It's already in bargain bins, and you can barely find the Gamecube version nowadays. It was overlooked by many.. it's not even being restocked at sites such as ebgames or Gamestop.

Yes, it was praised as being a good game, but it died out way too quickly. It was as good as Goldeneye (in my opinion, of course), but it had nowhere near the proper shelf-life it should have had. I should've clarified my post :)

Most of the people I talk to have never heard of Timesplitters, or Timesplitters 2, this is another reason I classify it as overlooked.

Eh... I can't really pull off any out of my one-track mind right now.

Did anyone else like Chaser? I might downlo... err, buy it :D. Kinda' like I just bought Deus Ex 2: Invisible War ^__^.

So you illegally downloaded the full PC version of Deus Ex 2: Invisible War? You are also now considering doing the same with Chaser? Hard working game developers go out of business, or gain little in the way of profit from their products, from actions like this.

Or maybe you're just kidding.

Holy shit man, calm the hell down. It's the first game that I've ever downloaded. You need to chill your ass down before you get slapped.

Hmm, that's odd... on Gamespot.com it got an 8.0 / Great rating. Another site gave it a 7.8 / 10 (10 being the best, obviously...)

Odd. Where'd you read that review at Pen?

maybe he was looking at the review from Actiontrip, they only gave it a 59.
Linky

59 / 10?!?! Holy shiza... must be GREAT then *goes and buys*

/sarcasm :D

Ick, I hate that web-site's design. Supa-00gly! *Reads review*

Oh, and thanks for that link FortisVir :). I appreciate it.

I heard Chaser was uttelry horrible.

You're very welcome :) .

And just to throw in my 2 cents, I bought tron 2.0 a couple days ago and I'm loving it. I'm not sure if the game sold well or not, but its a damn fine fps.

I mean the lighting effects, wow . The way the characters look, the environments, even the way the weapons materialize when you select them is neat. I also like how command lines appear on your screen giving you an idea of whats happening inside the virtual world.

The game is great on its own, but for a computer nerd like me, it's even better :p .

***Woohoo it's 2004!***

Disruptor, for PSX, first game I got for my console and LOVED it. Despite the controller used for FPS play it was insanely entertaining, lasted me ages, went through it again on hard mode and still had trouble on the final levels, if theres one thing I hate about modern games it's that they're too damn easy. Also the weapons were really cool and original, and fun to use, and had a nice balance. And the enemies were so cool :D That's my pick anyway.

Blade of Darkness.
It Had amazing graphics for its time, and i mean amazing, close to battlefield. Although this game wasnt really a fps, more a third person, but still, great game. It was a midevil type game with 4 different characters to go thru about 16 missions in huge levels, you had unique moves and a level system, and you could also pickup various items like chairs and rocks, and then throw them at your enemies. It was a gory game tho, you could cut off someones arm or head, pick it up and hit another creature with it. But this game is seriously one of my favorites, it was mostly single player tho, multi wasnt that good. fun fun game :)

No-One Lives Forever or Operation Flashpoint for sure.

Operation Flashpoint gets my vote. it was full of bugs but holy crap what a game. hardly anyone bought it so they missed out.

OP. FLASHPOINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I hv already said on the «Why are you a gamer?» topic by MrBadger Op. Flashpoint was a stain in the gaming world.

extremely realistical :
- localized damage - tk a shot in the leg and you can't get up get shot in the arm and you
- lose accuracy or can't fire at all.
restrictions to use of some arms - you could only use the rocket launcher crouched) and
- vehicles needing the exact amount of people as it is in reality - 4 or 5 to mk a tank. move properly, and 2 to a heli fly and shoot.
- 1 weapon at a time.
- sounds of the weapons taped to be reproduced.

The story turned around rogues in some Soviet-controlled-island which gave you the oppurtunity to drive vehicles from them and shoot their weapons (lots of variety)

The maps were HUGE, maybe with the size of Liberty or Vice city.

Excellent graphics for the time.

and all that to less than 100 000 copies sold.

Huzzah for Abom! The original NOLF was superb. Endlessly inventive, funny, challenging, stylish and a whole host of other qualities that other shooters can only dream of having, yet they still sell more. A travesty of justice. The second one sold more copies yet wasn't as good. Tsk tsk.

Giants could be played in 1st person sometimes so mayb... Ok, no it doesn't count but STILL. No-one bloody bought it!!! Why!? That was also endlessly inventive, funny, challenging, stylish and f*cking bonkers to boot. And now they won't make a sequel or take any more risks... Boooo.
And, even though it's not an FPS, don't get me started on Grim Fandango.

God NOLF was so fantastic. I just... don't have the words to describe how utterly excellent it was. Motorcycles, underwater battles, snowmobiles, sniping sections, stealth, action... yes, it truly did have it all.

In fact, I think I'll boot it up again today!

NOLF has a big community. In my country at least, bigger than our DoD and many people say it's a great game so I don't think it's overlooked.

And Giants- well another stain but not an FPS
Grim Fandango was not overlooked. Many people also aclaim it as one of the greatest adv. games of all time

Grim Fandango is not an FPS lads.

i didn't like NOLF all that much, thought the sequel was much better. they put a lot more thought and effort into making the second one a better all round and focused game rather than a general bit of everything type of game.

Tron 2.0

Awsome Story
Awsome World
Awsome Gameplay
Awsome Graphics

All the reviews praised it, all the pros loved it.

Sold like shit!

ah yeah forgot about Tron 2.0, i enjoyed that a lot. loved the style.

I've played Tron 2.0's demo and I thought it way too confusing - upgrades to subroutines, upgrades to weapons, way too much things to do....
And also the enemy AI sucked - the enemies waited for my disk to gv them a headshot not going anywere.
And the Energy system - didn't liked it.
Took me like 5 days to get it all.
And don't even get me started on the Light Cycles.

Weel Of Time is very good. 1st game made from the Unreal Engine if I remember correctly. (Maybe second)
NOLF rocks!
AvP 1 Is very fun too.

Are we talking about the same game here? Operation Flashpoint sold over 1 million copies. If you think that's overlooked, you're a very hard man to satisfy.

1 million copies?????????
SHI*!!!!
That lying son of a bi*** of my brother!!!
You could be wrong too!! Were did you got that info??

Anyways Op. Falshpoint isn't known by most of the community so I think it is overlooked.

Why would an underselling game get a 'Gold' Edition and loads of expansion packs... hmmm

To sell more!!!

*realizes that was wrong*

okey dokey I'll justify with a new sentence-
Op. Flashpoint should be praised as one of the greatest games ever so it has been underrated being considered only «one more».

NOLF has a dedicated community, sure. It got great reviews, but a lot of games get wonderful reviews and don't sell... In general it really did not sell that well which was a shame.
NOLF2 was a different experience in many ways - the skills system was very good and things like that, but there weren't as many weapons or gadgets (fun weapons and gadgets, especially); it wasn't as funny (although still funnier than most by a long way); the Super Soldiers bit was rubbish (although the Antarctica levels were DAMN scary); it wasn't as long and it didn't have the different variety of levels. Although it DID have the best chase sequence that has ever existed.

Grim Fandango, again, received much praise (and deservedly so) but didn't sell so well. As far as I recall...
