A piano is the only instrument that can play as part of a symphony, but can also play the entire symphony's part. No doubtedly the most famous instrument next to the violin and the guitar, it's hard fo anyone to resist a good piano piece when listening to it live (preferably standing right next to the piano, if you've never watch a good pianist play from right behind him you haven't experienced piano music as it should be).

So, for piano-players and non-players, what's your favorite piece? Please provide a midi so we can get a sense o fit. I know midis definetly don't do any justice to a piece, but maybe we already know it and it'll remind us.

One of my favorite piano composer is Liszt. God he's got some pieces that I hope I'll be able to play one day. Too bad he's incredibly hard to play:

Hungarian Rhapsody #2 in C- (listen to at least a quarter of it if not all.)

LiebenStraum #2. This one you probably already know. Don't confuse it with Beethoven's pathetique though.

Another of my favorite piano composers is Chopin.

This one you know if you've seen the pianist ;)

Nocturne #14 in F#- Another great nocturne (they're all great really)

Post yours! And please no "Fur Eliz" :( That piece is so overrated/overplayed.

Not got a midi, but ''she's a rainbow'' by the rolling stones is awesome :D

Especially this whole part;

''Have you seen her dressed in blue?
See the sky in front of you
And her face is lik a sail
Speck of white so fair and pale
Have you seen a lady fairer?''

EDIT: just the first little bit so it doesnt really 'show' much, but here, have a link courtesy of amazon :)

My brother is ****ing ace at playing the great pieces. When I stand next to him watching him play that completely flawlessly, for some reason I just start to smile uncontrollably.

Au Claire De la Lune

Definitely one of my most favourite pieces. Simple but at the same time soothing and dreamy. It tells a story in ways few other piano pieces have.

Grand Theft Auto III Theme Song
Aphex Twin's Kesson Daslef

First two that come to mind that are exceptionally good.

i hear jongleurs have a few open slots, but you better be quick.

Piano Concerto Number one in B minor OP.23 - Allegro non troppo e molto maestro - Allegro con Spirito FTW!

Everyone who likes some good piano rock should listen to Ben Folds. Fred Jones Pt. 2 and Carrying Cathy on his first solo album, Rockin' The Suburbs (which is a song on the album that's damned hilarious take on bands like Linkin' Park etc.) are both fantastic pieces, and The Luckiest will always have a special little place in my heart.

I'm currently trying to learn the piano, although my choice of tutor wasn't too great (a friend who didn't want payment :/)

please. EDIT: I managed to listen to it. I hated it (shenmue credits). It's the same chord progression over and over again with some repeated slightly varied melody. How unexcitingly bland.

This doens't really help. Who's the composer? I'm gonna guess beethoven because that's your avatar.

EDIT: NVM it's thaikosvky.

3rd :dork: the second movement imo isn't as cool as the first or third

Dammit >: (. I don't like the first movement, too overplayed. How many years you been playing? Are you taking CM?

yeah, the first one's kinda overplayed. what do you mean by CM? i've been playing for around 5 years but only the last 2 have been actually interesting, really. do you play?
