there are pretty much no good ska bands in america i wish that goldfinger or someone would just do a tour here in the states :(

Where's the "I don't beleive in labelling music" option? :p

I tend to listen to a lot of rock-orientated stuff, but I've dabbled in quite a lot of rap and hip-hop, as well as some old ska (Madness are untouchable). I'm a big industrial fan as well (as fans of NIN can tell from my avatar), so stuff like Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Pitchshifter and Atari Teenage Riot are good favourites of mine. :) I'm really getting into the new metal bands that are appearing from the US (finally, some proper US metal) like Killswitch Engage and Chimaira.

Also, the Uk has been getting quite a few excellent progressive rock orientated stuff -bands like Muse, Amplifier and Oceansize are great examples.

So yeah, rock stuff mostly. But I might dabble in a bit of Bjork, or listen to the Jakalop website over and over. :D I also like quite a few video game soundtracks, like Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill 2 (which both have some brilliant musicianship).

For more information, check this out. :)

No point putting ska on badger, since ska is rock.
I usually listen to alternate rock, heavy metal, some ska, punk, old pop, rock

Actually both trance and rock, but if I have to pick, I pick rock.

ska is not rock...well maybe the modern incarnation is but the roots are in reggae. Besides bands like goldfinger are more of a rock band with ska influences. Real ska is jamiacan ska from the 50's and 60's...there was a brief revival in the early 80's that was closer to the roots than ska today..bands like the Selector, the Specials and to a lesser extent Madness

I like all forms of music..except R N B, soul, new country and modern pop (celine dion, boy bands etc)

indie rock
and you forgot about trip hop, new wave, math rock, punk, post-punk, breakbeat, folk, ambient, downtempo, classical, swing, jazz, blues, bluegrass, choral, country, 2-step, synth-pop, jungle, and soul

I little emo... And other stuff, I don't really know what bright eyes and modest mouse are... I guess a type of psuedo emo or something

i don't like bright eyes, I find some emo just goes over the top

extreme power metal, they might be giants(a genre all their own I'd say), uhm... whats radiohead? or the ass ponys? yeah, labelling songs by genre etc doesn't work. and keep an eye on this kingady person, he's a bot

ugh.. bright eyes makes me want to kill myself.. god i hate that kids voice.. :x
modest mouse is pretty good though :)

both would be considered "indie rock/pop", btw.

all three would be considered "alternative". radiohead, recently, has been leaing towards experimental electronic rock, and tmbg has always been fairly solidly in the "college rock" catch-all. as long as you define your own terms, labeling is pretty easy :)

Metal, I suppose I'll have to vote for 'rock' though... this poll could have used a few more variations. Actually, I won't vote, since metal and rock are so different.

What genre do REM, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Velvet Underground, Madness and The Clash come under? :)

REM, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Velvet Underground, Madness and The Clash
college-rock/pop, new wave (alternative..early cure), Madness (ska/pop) and punk/pop

hmmm velvet underground defies classification....hmmmm punk meets folk? indie meets intellectual rock?

No "ambient" choice in the poll. Not even a "chill-out" choice! And god damn not even a "Classical"!!!

So out of them I'm gonna have to go with "rap/hip hop", but don't be thinking along the lines of stuff like Blazing Squad or 'Badass Stripper', i'm talking 'bout the proper rap from rappers like Common, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes for example.

Edit: Just noticed there isnt a jazz choice aswell!!!

A punk option would be handy.

I dug out an old Rancid album the other day - great stuff :)

hendrix is hard-/blues-rock, not college rock.

esquire, i feel your pain.. this is about as incomplete as a poll could be..

You should be executed. :burp:

Anyways, I was into rock, but then i returned to the origins. Classical. Rock will die someday, but Classical is heard until today.

Just noticed, Esquire is a smart guy too.

oops I missed hendrix all together...college rock was REM (at least early REM till they sold their soul to become the corporate rock gods they are today ;) )

 I listen to Underground Hip Hop, ever since I was like 10, never really dug the mainstream stuff. Recently I started to listening to bands like Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, AFI, Franz Ferdinand, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, The Strokes, and some others. I'm not exactly sure what Genre these bands belong to, I just started to get into Rock type music. Listening to Sage Francis does this to people.

the ramones and afi are punk, basically. hendrix and zeppelin are hard-blues rock, jimi more towards the blues side and zeppelin more towards the hard/metal side. yeah yeah yeahs, strokes and white stripes are basically indie/garage-rock (though early white stripes was basically a led zeppelin cover, imo). don't know much about franz ferdinand other than that i've heard them compared to interpol before.

I listen to absolutely everything except todays mainstream and pop.

I only like Eminem's rap.
The other stuff bastardizes the english language.:frown:
I generally like Rock from Disturbed, AC/DC and some other groups.
I some what like the 'grunge'-pop by Maroon 5.
And I think the stuff from Lunatic Calm is techno.

:)

In the immortal words of The Dude.

I f*ckin' hate The Eagles.

I listen to absolutely everything, but I think hip-hop is bar far the most innovative and interesting style of music out there today.

It was probably a joke. I cannot imagine somebody not knowing that.
