I just got FEAR and on Interval 7, I can tell you this has got to be the least scary game, of the horror/action genre, that I have ever played. The first three levels have slight to moderate scares (the girl showing up infront of you as you climb down the ladder), but afterwards, it's like they forgot it was suppost to be scary. I'm bored. :|

BTW Doom 3 had some cheap but effective thrills, especially when there's that black corner in the room and when you shine your flashlight on it that imp just jumps out and starts wacking you in the face. That part scared me shitless, and I even forgot to change weapons so I was trying to kill it with the flashlight. :p

I've only played the demo but I AGREE!

What you played in the demo was the compilation of the scariest parts in the first 3 levels. Maybe even in the whole damn game.

EDIT: Mesh only played 'till the fourth level so far, and I'd like to see what he does with the monotony of the rest of the game.

are you lost your mind !!!!

are you trying to say that doom 3 is more scarier and fun than Fear ?

Just complete the game goddammit

Fine, I will. But this better be worth it damn it. The scariest part I've seen so far is a fat man in a hawaiian t-shirt. v_v

Actually doom 3 is a bit better...first off better enviroments, longer game and it's DOOM!! FEAR was a good concept, but the makers sort of screwed it up...but I forgive them because condemned is an awesome game!

I've only played through a few loading points so far, but I agree...

I think it would be more scary if they actually had things that chased you. Nothin beats trying to run from something and having the growls and foot steps get louder right before it catches you! :D

But, I haven't even played it that much, maybe there will be something exciting like that, instead of all the repeating images of people turning into ashes...

I felt like that too until i got towards the end of the game. It really picks up its game towards the end of it. But yeah, not scary.

Everyone who doesnt like fear = banned!

It's different scary to Doom 3, you need to sort of be in the mood. That said there will always be people proud of saying they aren't scared because they are tough men with big balls. I went back and played Doom 3 Delta labs after fear and shat my pants when the commandos came running, you get used to it after a while though.
FEAR has some good scares and it's an interesting game, I think Doom 3 is a better game though.

Doom 3 isn't even scary :|. At least FEAR made me jump from time to time. Doom 3 was a laugh fest.

FEAR isn't really completely focused on scaring you... Have you not noticed it's amazing AI and how super-fun the gunfights are?

Not too special to me. Sometimes it feels like I'm using a pea-shooter... a pea-shooter that makes random electric volts and sparks in the air. It's sort of a chore when you get all stocked up and you hit f5 before walking into a hallway full of "Replicas". And the AI is pretty good, yeah.

Yes, actually FEAR is suppost to be focused on scaring you. Thus the quote "One of the creepiest games ever."

Ok, where in there does it say that I loved Doom 3, Doom 3 is more fun, and Doom 3 is way better than FEAR? Though yes I did enjoy it more.

How about this: I liked BOTH.
Doom 3 = cheap scares, ok, but scares nonetheless. Startled/freaked me out multiple times. Not very challenging, but quite fun.

F.E.A.R. = lots of fun. Didn't scare me, save for a few parts, but the action was absolutely STELLAR. Awesome gibbing + everything that I've wanted in a game = teh win.

someone kill me- I said "teh".

doom 3 made me close my eyes in fright, fear made me get paranoid while playing the entire game, i think doom 3 sucked hardcore.

doom3, a few small jumps here and there. the no flashlight while having a gun out made it twice as fun/scary when fighting.
f.e.a.r, a bit creepy, lots of 'uh, should i check that sound out or not ?' moments.

want to know a scary game ? alien vs. predator; first time i played it it was a ripped copy and i went into mp and chose marines, so i'm on this map and there are bots (aliens/pred) running around and the aliens scared me so much because there is nowhere you could hide, they could from the top, bottom, the side, EVERYWHERE.

i agree that it becomes less and less scary as the game progresses
however, the gameplay is satisfying enough to keep me playing

Although F.E.A.R. was ridiculously easy- I played through on Extreme Difficulty in what must have been like 7 hours. I probably died 3 times.

F.E.A.R suffers from terribly dull level design, but apart from that it's quite good.

The levels should be like your avatar

Jellyworld's avatar rulz
i kept staring at that thing for hours..

I found them to be different kinds of "scary". Doom 3 had a lot of cheap scares and shit-yourself moments, whereas FEAR had a more persistent creepy tone to it that got under your skin.

In other news, the HL2.net forums are officially comprised 75% of paint-drinking retards.

Doom 3 spooked me a bit at the start but it got quite repetative. I have yet to play FEAR though.

How can anyone take the cheese fests that are 'horror' games/movies seriously? The whole genre is a joke.

I find FEAR quite boring too, I just like the nice graphics and the funny AI.

The ending in F.E.A.R. is well worth trudging through some of the boring bits.

I couldn't get past when the demons first arrived, and that guy turns into a demon on Doom 3. I exited as soon as that happened.

On the F.E.A.R. Demo I got scared when I saw the girl at the top of the ladder (My heart just stopped beating for a second while I thought "Oh shit").

I'd rate myself at about Mesh's level of scaredy-ness while playing games like this. Hoewever I can easily watch someone else playing it without getting scared...

Hehe, when the first guy turned into a zombie in Doom 3 I didn't realise, and thought he wanted a hug.
Until he started eating me and stuff.

like zomg don't say teh fear is boring!

Fanbois be running up on your behind.

I found FEAR much more scary thahn Doom, and much more fun.

"He's Over there!"
**Shotgun
**SloMo
**Shot To Head
**Bad guy dies
**Shoot another
**Bullet Time runs out
**Throw Grenade (Optional)
**Wait for the SloMo bar to refill (While no one goes near you)
**SloMo
**Shoot last few people
**Rinse / Repeat

None of the weapons were worth using except the Shotgun and Rifle, and they threw stupid enemies at you that were never explained or rational.

I mean, if the dude in charge of FEAR can always see what you see and stuff, why can't he say about the damn armoured suits that walk around. Not to mention the fact that they were badly designed.

FEAR was mediocre at best.

Although you'll all take my opinion as a pinch of salt, because I thought Quake 4 was better. :O

I think the gameplay is boring, yes. I have to admit that.

But the game does have a good deal of tension and frights later on. Plus its great doing a slo-mo; dual pistol firing; slide kicking death run into a group of idiot soldiers.
