FEAR or Quake 4 ...which should I get. I cant stress this enough ..I really dont care all that much who has better graphics ..it's the gameplay I'm interested in ..the mp for both games doesnt interest me, I'm just looking for a fun single player experience ...oh and if you'd like to suggest something else that's ok too

I'd like to hear from people who have both games

FEAR, FEAR, FEAR.

Sure, it has nice graphics, but I see that as the sugar-coating on some supreme gameplay. The firefights are awesome, and the melee combat and SloMo aren't just throwaway gimmicks.

ya the frentic combat is what gives fear the leading edge ...although the dark endless corridors are a minus ..what's combat like in quake 4 in comparison?

Everyone that talks about Q4 says it's a disapointment.

I'm really enjoying FEAR singleplayer right now, so I suggest it.

I just tried quake 4 round a friends house and it's truely terrible.

I think overall fear is a poor game, but I seem to be in the minority who actually have that opinion, so I would say fear.

And FYI it's not scary unless your 12.

Ok, I'm the idiot who hit Quake 4 by accident. Sorry, my vote was supposed to go to " Dont know, havent played both games". Thats twice I've done that on a poll in two days :|

heh good thing the topic wasnt "games that I'd kill my family over"

ya ok that joke was a stretch but what you gonna do

I think you and I have similiar tastes in games if I recall correctly ...what didnt you like about both games?

FEAR's SP looks better, but Quake 4's MP is about 50x better :) [Having played FEAR's mp during the beta. .and thinking.. wow, this is wank + Q4 is Q3++ ;) ]

Quake 4 was just bad.

I'm not paticulary a graphics hoe, but fear was such an ugly game.

But the game itself tried to rely on the "OMFG SLOWMO!!!!!" too much, and it suffered from doom 3's scaretactics, where it used the same technique over and over again untill it got bland and very boring.

Fear seems to only have 3 colours in the whole game, and has a severe case of samey looking box geometry.

The story was totally pants and in parts predictable.

I'm gonna say wait till this game hits bargain bin, and go with black and white 2(But I think you have this game already)

I am totally bored of "scare" games, they fall flat on their faces, because they just run out of scary ideas to get you with.

2 Games I would recommend, farenheit and black and white 2.

He's kind of playing devil's advocate on FEAR here, saying gfx are terrible, AI is predictable and apparently didn't enjoy it one bit.

Just finished it, short as anything.

I rate this, doom 3.

So if theres nothing better it automatically means it's amazing?

Erm no. I'm not comparing fears A.I. with another game, the AI is just predictable in every way.

The enviroments got set up so it's easy for them to look smart with the minimal amount of work(wow large squares!) No A.I. in any game has impressed me yet.

I can sum up fears A.I. in 1 word.

Predictable.

Anyways...I think you get the picture. Just take some opinions with a grain of salt.

As for my vote. I say FEAR. Sure the level design doesn't change a lot but it makes up for that in great firefights. I've replayed firefights just for fun to see what happens. The differences can be pretty drastic. Also, it's not truely "scary" (I don't know if I've truely been scared my entire life) but I'll be damned if it doesn't creep me out big-time when I play it at night with all the lights off and my headphones turned up. It's the kind of creepy that will have you on edge, leaning towards your monitor checking for enemies behind you when you thought you heard something even though there's nothing there...usually.

Have you played the demo though? If you liked the demo then you'll like the full game if you can get past level design.

I've never played Black and white ...dont beat me

searching reviews

I've played neither, but judging from reviews, Fear.

ya the demo was ok ..didnt like the scary parts because although they did heighten the tension I never felt that I was in danger from the apparitions, so after the second time playing it I completely ignored the apparitions ..didnt stop me from shooting them :)

I'm not playing devils advocate, just because i'm not in the "omfg fear is amazingin!" circle jerk.

I just did not like the game.

I know you're not exactly playing devil's advocate that's why I said, "kind of playing".

It just seems like you're going out of your way to find flaws.

Also...just out of curiosity, what game has the best AI and what is your favorite game?

Black and white series has the best A.I.

My favourite game(s) would be black and white 2, half life series, unreal tournament series and Clive Barkers undying.

I suggest buying Psychonauts, but since you only seem to interested in FPS, there is no point.

it's not that I'm only interested in fps it's just that I enjoy fast paced games that involve skill and thinking on the run ..I'm not a fan of run and gun shooters

Not to mention FEAR has some great voice acting and the character convey alot though their body language.
Overall it's a great game so far. Though I did play the MP Beta as well and it was lacking quite a bit.

FEAR retail MP is quite a blast, but it's nothing more than throwaway fun really. Shotgun rampages are entertaining, though... although everyone pretty much whores the gun anyway.

I vote FEAR...I'd much rather have a great Single Player then a better Multiplayer. Too many MPs around..not enough good SP.

I voted FEAR btw

Is the monotonous level design/colors a noticeable drawback in FEAR?

f.e.a.r.! omg this game rocks. the combat is ùber sweet. it`s quite a unpleasant game if you dont like eerie tension and "something is going to make me jump and shit my pants somewhere in this building".
