Right, how feasable is this:

A race from New York to Alabama

The rules:

No money to be spent on travel, you must hitchhike or hop trains.

Unless it's an emergency you must not spend money on travel - food etc is fine.

:)

Any replies would be helpful

So basically, as long as you're not using money for transportation, you can use it on food or lodging? Of course that'd be feasible. Why wouldn't it be? You could hitchhike all the way, or hop a train like you said (although hopping a train now isn't as easy as it was back in the day of railcar hobos, is it?), or you could even run the whole way. As long as you could spend money on food and water to keep you going, nothing's stopping you.

A race?

I'd win, i'd just run for it.

Seriously though, you could prob get anywhere in the world real quick for free if you knew what you were doing, just don't hide in the landing gear bay of a jet liner like those indians did....they were frozen solid.

Of course it would be. Probably wouldn't be much fun and it'd take a while but it's possible.

Why do you ask?

Haha yeah. And both their bodies fell from the sky into the same place at different times.

hmm...Where in Alabama are you going?

Would be awesome fun :D

I've never been to the US before, so it would be a brand new experience.

You'll probably see a diversity of places you wouldn't see in the UK.

You should end your race in Mobile. First one to touch salt water wins. Or something like that.

Just bring a video camera and charm the pants off everybody you meet. Tell em you are doing an MTV show about crossing the US with no money and just your camera. Should be feasable.

It would be a capitol way for you to experience the country.

This isn't England.. You would be arrested for hitchhiking.. And there are no trains..

yeah dreadlords right, you better whip that thumb out.

GTA-style, steal a car. When it runs out of gas, steal another one. Also, kill prostitutes. Not before screwing them, either.

Sounds like a lot of fun actually, just dont carry more cash than you're willing to lose. Oh, and a cell phone, and probably enough change for a phone call onece that dies.

Well, British police advise against hitch-hiking, since lorry drivers usually are serial killers.

So I guess Hitchhiking is equally as dangerous in America.

Rent a car for 3 days I reckon, you'll make the journey and it'll probably work out cheaper in the end.

As long as you had plenty of money and nothing to do for a couple of weeks, I guess it could be fun. Come to think of it, if you had the money and a way of getting a lift if you got totally lost it'd be awsome.

It'd be pretty interesting watching a race like that. Seeing what ways people come up with to get from point A to point B.

As long as you don't jump into a car boasting about 7 minute abs you'll be fine.

They thought 9 minute abs were impossible, but I have a way of getting 7 minute abs! YES!

EDIT: I don't think you'd get very far. And the other person might just cheat :P

Oh and how much money?

I'll try and document it as much as possible :D

Yea, I was interested in how dangerous it would be.. I thought in America people would be more willing to stop and pick people up.

I don't consider myself among the more rapeable members of the population (over 18 and male :D )

Also what's America like with it's drinking laws? Don't think I could go for a few weeks with a beerski or 5 :|

around here the drinking age is 21... But being 18 it shouldn't be to tough to get alcohol though...

Amtrak?
Santa Fe?
Union Pacific?

Hell, my city wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the Santa Fe. But good luck trying to hop that one, it's a freight line LOL. You'd be literally riding -on- the train.

the Appalachian trail goes from Maine to Georgia and when i was in NY i spent three days and hiked part of it, many people have done it, even a blind man.

I don't mind that :p could be fun :D

Hiking isn't my thing really, I'd do it for a while, but not 3 days :|

Bubba the Truck driver might like a new friend to hang on his wall back in Alabama and a fresh faced young English boy might do him pretty well.

Remember where I grew up: Lewisham/Faversham :E

Lewisham is a wonderful place to grow up, the sweetest most wonderful lady in the universe came from there :o

I'll just say they aren't nice places.

I had a good family who shielded me from much of the bad stuff in London when I was a child, but as I got to around 14-15 and started going out on the razz, I got to see all the bad shit of Faversham.

:)

I've not had the worst upbringing, but I'm just saying I'm not sheltered :E
