Well, can you give me some feedback on this (very early in dev) city model for Half Life 2?

hmmmmm, well. It looks alright. But why are u making a full city in 3dsmax anyway, have u ever mapped for halflife before. Because if u didn't notice then it could all be done in brushes so much easier and fast and also increase r_speeds.

It's created with Maya 5...

Yeas I've been mapping alot for HL and CS, and I've always donw it this way by making the whole map in a 3d pgm first, and then applying them to hammer, but sice I don't know how the new hammer tools will work yet...

exactly! you make map models (like fauntains and statues) in maya or 3dmax but not fullscale maps.

You actually can make maps for hl1 and CS in a 3d program like 3dstudiomax quite easily...

Your city looks nice, but maybe a bit too square....

Yes you can, but it is better, ie. the maps produced will use less polygons (unless the conversion program somehow fills meshes into with convex brushes).

Care to enlighten us as to your method to convert 3dsmax files into .map files?

I believe there's an exporter, but it doesn't take non-convex brushes into account. You'd spend more time fixing errors than actually being productive.

That's what i thought. Stone seems to think it's easy so maybe he has some secret method to do with with creating one brush per polygon.
