Legendary film-maker Ingmar Bergman has died aged 89, according to a Swedish news agency.

One of the key figures in modern cinema, his 60-year career has spanned intense classics like Cries & Whispers, The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries.

He was nominated for nine Oscars himself, while his films won the best foreign film Oscar three times.

Bergman died at his home in Faro, Sweden, the Swedish news agency TT said, citing his daughter Eva Bergman.

;( I've always liked his movies. Certainly one of the best movie makers of all time.

I wonder if he asked for whom the bell tolls in his last moments.

Was just about to make a thread, he'll be missed.:(

He was nominated for an Oscar nine times, but never won. It's a shame.

Three of his movies won for Best Foreign Language Film, though.

One of the very few internationally recognized swedish filmmakers. Not that we've had many of them that deserved recognition, but Bergman was one of those few who did, and got it. His movies will live on though, which is good.

i feel very ignorant not to know anything about the guy...

and so you should ..

it's a shame that his influence and the movement in film that spawned Bergman and his contemporaries is all but dead ..the stupio system is far too entrenched in the movie making business that I feel people such as bergman, today would have their creativity curtailed
