Final Fantasy Creator - Xbox 2

Microsoft has announced that it has inked a deal with Hironobu Sakaguchi, father of the smash hit Final Fantasy series, to develop two role-playing games for Xbox 2, widely expected to be launched by the end of 2005 or early in 2006.

Sakaguchi will work on both games under a new game development company, Mistwalker, headquartered in Japan.

This will be the first time for Sakaguchi to work with Microsoft for the Xbox 2 platform. His former company, Square, developed 11 versions of Final Fantasy for Nintendo platforms, followed by Sony Playstation.

The Final Fantasy series is the single most successful role-playing game in video gaming history, selling approximately 60 million copies worldwide and spawning several copycats along the way.

Sakaguchi’s deal with Microsoft is expected to boost the Xbox 2 presence in Japan, considered the second biggest market for video games after the US.

Sony has the same idea for world domination and EA to..
I mean Sony's going at it by controling every product on the market.
EA is going at it by buying up everything.
Microsoft is going at it by created programs that screw up alot causing people to go insane(I have yet to experince these problems.. on a small or bigger scale)

This is an interesting development. Square-Enix themselves haven't put anything worth playing out since Sakaguchi left, but it's hardly as if the abilities of a single guy are enough to create good games. No idea how this one will develop, but I honestly can't see it turn around M$'s fortunes in Japan anyway.

I'm kinda looking forward to it. A new RPG series made by the guy that made the biggest RPG series of all time. It might give me a reason to buy an xbox.

I'm skeptical. Final Fantasy was a huge success because the *team* at Square worked, like the guy above me said, I doubt just one guy was responsible for the success of FF, and it'll be very difficult for him to repeat it!

...I think you missed the point of my post. I'm not trying to make any sort of statement against monopolies, I'm just taking the piss out of people who do when companies like MS do this sort of thing.

Probably. I liked IX (Moogles everywhere!) but I'd not call it "awesome". X was awful, X-2 was somehow even worse and XI... well, the die-hard fans seem to think it's pretty good but I doubt it's a truely awesome game.

Wow...When I read that title I thought you meant like...It was going to be the end of FF, cause they were making a "game" where you could create your own FF...Like an RPG Maker.

I'll quite happilly keep plugging away at stuff like Fable and Mercinaries on my X-Box but by not playing a console you are missing out.
