Im thinking of buying it as its just (finaly!) come out in the UK as a pack with 2 addons with it, just wondered if anyone plays it here and what their opinion of it is?

i played it for about 2 months, i dont really like the xp restrictions. to get good xp you can be no more than 2 levels away from ppl in the party. which sucked cuz then your friends level up a butt load and you dont then you cant play with them. so i switched to Star Wars Galaxies after that, played that for a good 6 months, now im done with that.

Now im awaiting a new video card and everquest 2

:) Get it, waste your cash and become bankrupt! Support the evil empire of Square/Enix... Muahahah....

also, i dont think they have gamecards

gamecards = best idea for mmo's, i hate begging my parents to use their credit cards

Same here, but also I hate it when it comes down to decision making between when it comes to spending my own money.

Its a great game, I played for about 3 months. The things I dislike are around lvl 10-13 they basically force you to group depending on your class, because even "Easy" enemies are too hard to take down solo. And the level gring...but thats in every mmo so meh.

Anyhow its pretty fun, I had about 25 days but into it... yea 25 ACTUAL days in about a 5 month time span... crazy stuff but it was fun for a while.

i played it for a month, i had a blast with it (it was my first MMO) but then i cancelled my subscription because i didnt want to waste my money on something so time consuming.....ill save that for EQ2.

No. Believe me, dont get it. I had a blast for the first month, so i bought it, and then it just sucked. Theres really not much to do when you compare it to every other mmorpg thats out, and it also dosent feel like a FF game. And leveling takes for ever, and its very boreing, its also the only thing to really do in the game. Getting gil in the game takes a load of time to get the amount to buy lets say a piece of armor. I played for about 4 months on and off and i never reached 30,000 gil. Believe me, save your money.

Edit: forgot to mention grouping - Its impossible to play this game without grouping after level 10, and finding a good group in this game could take about half of your play time for the day.

I know this is really offtopic but its still about MMORPGs, did you know that Everquest 2 is giong to be somewhere near 16 CDs for the CD rom version.

Guild Wars looks sweet.
a Free MMORPG.
It should be up in "Blizzard" quality of games.(Which are 90%+ by Pc Gamer US Ratings).
Considering - Most of the employs were key people in games like "Starcraft * Warcraft 1/2/3"
Also they have some of the originators of battle.net(Including the architect).

Free Online Play, and its not about "How long you play" it's not based pruley around that. I played it during E3 and it was one hell of a game. Great gfx, great netcode(im a 56ker), was pretty sweet. The quest system is pretty cool etc.. I can't wait for this game.

They will be coming out with expansions though (Though they say that these expansions will add an insane amount of new content based on they made easy to use construction tools for them).(like every 6 -10 months a new expansion).

Seems pretty cool since no monthly fee n all. According to them, there server has only been down 1 hour through out the whole type they have been developing it including E3. (Around 250 thousand people were playing it during E3). They can run multiple copies of it on each server, so they can be fixing something on it while also have people play etc...

Seems pretty cool. I suggest checking it out when it comes out.

Thats why i reserved the DVD version.

On topic: I guess the only reason i liked it was because it was my first MMo and i had nothing to compare to...

Hmm.. i dont know..
actually, i like Ragnarök more... i dont know why..

/me adds dvd-rom to christmas wishlist

i rather not use 16 cds to install a game. i hate installing ut2k4, and thats only 5 cds!

the only mmo I've played (on my computer) is project entropia.

It's good, but you really need to deposit to get anywhere.

Hm, I'll get FF online on friday, unless I theres something else that I really want to get, like dawn of war. Dont need to worry about gamecards, I pay out of my own money.

Here's a basic summary of my FF Online experience.

Started out pretty good. Levels 1-9 were fun, just soloing outside of town and doing questions and missions. Then you hit level 10 and the grouping starts.

"Welcome to the Dunes the most miserable place you've ever been." Wow, what can I say about the dunes? It makes leveling from 10-19 painfully miserable. You put your party tag up and wait and wait and wait. Then you finally get into a group and guess what, no white mage! So you wait more and more until finally a white mage gets there and you'll farm monsters until someone leaves, which is about 30 min.

Once you get to 20 you move on thinking you got over the hard part, wrong! You move on to the next leveling are, which I'm forgetting the name of at the moment. You thought waiting an hour for a group was long at the dunes? Guess what from 20-30 you can wait up to 3 hours trying to get a group. Then like the dunes if you group is incompitent you won't be able to kill anything so it's a giant waste of time.

Then there's subjobs, which are pretty cool. You gotta have a subjob or else no one will group you. You gotta make your subjob your main job for a while until it half the level of your real main job then you switch back. This is ok until you gotta do the dunes again! Oh god it is painful having to do the dunes a second time.

Then you get to level 30 and you can get an Advanced job like a Ninja or a Ranger or you can stick with your basic main job. If you pick a new job you gotta do all that leveling all over again. Making you go through the dunes three times, yipee!

If you get a terrible group then it's not only wasting your time but if you die it also makes you lose exp. If you just leveled and you die you delevel going back to the level before it. Let's just say one day I was having an awful time in the Dunes and I got to level 18 31 times. Yea, it was pretty bad.

I just didn't like the fact that the game was so group dependent. If you white mage sucked everyone died. If you didn't have a black mage or a couple red mages to nuke you'd die. If your tank sucked or your secondary tank sucked you died. If your puller sucked and aggroed too many enemies you'd die. If you die you lose exp and time thus making it harder and longer to get to the next level. Not only that but the wait to get into the group takes forever.

If you didn't have to depend on everyone else to level I'd probably still be playing the game today. It's good for a few months but loses it's touch after a while. I really liked some of the people I met while playing the game and that was probably the best part about it. Other than that I say it isn't worth all the wasted time and stress that it causes. It's a very good game just too group dependant.

Oh yea, if you're going to be a warrior use a two-handed axe. That's what they're supose to use, either that or a normal axe. I kinda feel like playing it again since I've been bored to tears lately but I know I'll only get extremely stressed out by playing it.

Hmm.. starting to sound like it would be a better idea to get Dawn Of War.

I think you'd get more enjoyment out of FFXI than DoW. I've had both and I'm pretty much already bored with DoW. I was thinking about playing FFXI again but I dunno. I'll decide over the weekend.

Nah I been playing the demo of Dow for ages and ages.

Me and a few of my friends decided to start playing FFXI, but this time we're gonna stick together so we all won't have to look for groups.

Ah, thats a good idea.

None of my RL friends play MMO's tho :( , I always just make new friends while i start off in a new game.

I think its pathetic that you have to pay to play online for a game. Whats the point? May as well buy something like, diablo 2 one payment, install then unlimited playing time.

I really don't mind. I only have to work 1 hour to make the amount they want per month. It really doesn't put a dent in my pocket. Plus it's expensive to run 30 servers (I think that's how many there were). Here's a quote from an article they've just released:

The number of characters (currently active registered characters) living in Vana'diel has reached the 1.5 million mark! (As of September 28, 2004.)

The world of FINAL FANTASY XI is now home to more adventurers than ever before, with over 550,000 active players logging on during the same day, and a record 170,000 players logged on simultaneously on September 18.

Vana'diel is alive with players from Japan, North America, Europe, and other regions from across the globe. We look forward to welcoming even more new adventurers to FINAL FANTASY XI, and will do our utmmost to bring you the most exciting and enjoyable FINAL FANTASY XI experience possible.

That's a lot of people and I think paying per month is fair.

Yea, so far I've got 4 people and maybe a 5th. One of them is going to be a white mage so we don't have to look for any and the rest are going to be various other classes. Hopefully it'll work out as good as we've planned.

Cool, which class are you going to be? Im always a tank of some sort because i tried being a mage and it just wasnt my style to hang back.

Having a red mage is very helpful in FFXI, for healing and nuking.

I hope you're a die hard fan of Final Fantasy with a shit load of time. The game picks up past level 20, just don't die of boredom in the lower levels. I'd say it's worth it if you love FF.

BTW pressure how are you and your friends going to be able to play together since FFXI randomly puts you in a server?

Your going to have to buy an expensive world pass or make a second char so that you can enter in the name of one server.

I know people who still play and they'll buy us all World Passes. I'm going to be a warrior because like you I can't stand hanging back, I gotta be up in the action.
