I know most of you don't bother with handheld games (I usually don't) but I just picked up FFV for GBA and I quite like it so far. It's gotten pretty good reviews. Anyone else got it/getting it?

I'll definitely be getting it. I have been in love with XII since I got it a little over a week ago and need to get my FF fix on-the-go.

I'll definitely be getting III as well when it releases for the DS.

I liked Tactical Advance. Too bad I can't find it.

Tactics Advance or Tactical Advance???

III might be the reason I eventually pick up a DS Lite.

I wish I could get those games..they are hawt.

I passed over IV Advance, and I'll pass over V Advance too, especially as IV is probably the better game. V has a dull story, Bartz somehow has less personality than even Gordon Freeman and the game's main enemy rivals "my dad is a giant f***ing whale!" for Final Fantasy's stupidest plot point (Tremble in fear for I am X-Death! A Tree! But not just a tree, an EVIL tree! Muahahaah! Watch as I scratch you with my branches, through whose veins course the eviliest sap in the known universe!). The class system is quite fun mind you, but then it's far better in Tactics (the 'Defeat Dycedarg's Elder Brother!' Tactics, not Tactics Advance) and present in III as well.

I have the PS1 versions and portability isn't a factor for me (I end up playing handheld games at home anyway. I don't often do long journeys.) I may consider VI Advance when it comes out though... it's my favourite FF game, and the PSOne version has absolutely horrid loading times.

Besides the original final fantasy, V was the only one I really enjoyed so I may pick this up. They really just aren't my kind of game though.

According to one of the reviews I read (which did a lot of comparisons), IV Advance is a lot lamer (the port) than V, and there are new features in V that were not present in the SNES/PSX versions. I don't know how accurate that is, though, since I didn't play V on either of those systems.

I played V on the SNES and I can safely say it's my least favorite FF game. I'm holding my breath for III on the DS, and the rerelease of VI (whenever that comes out).

V clearly has redone backgrounds in the battles and also has new art done for the character portraits. Everything else though appears to be the same graphically, just scaled down. It also adds 4 (most likely, completely pointless) job classes. IV apparently had the same features with one important and much needed overhaul: you can take any of the characters to the final stage, rather than being stuck with the default party of 5. FFIV kills off characters that turn out to be ok just so that they can excuse bringing a new character in... the new feature makes up for that.

By comparrison, FFVI's battle screens appear to be carbon copies of the SNES originals... in part because they plainly looked better than those of FFIV/V, but they don't look quite as good as the revamped ones for the other advance titles. There is apparently a new dungeon and two new espers... though FF6 has a hell of a lot of optional stuff in it already without those two additions. So yes, it looks like FF6 advance is a poorer upgrade... But the fact of the matter is, FF5 plus a little spit shine won't ever be as good as FF6 plus a little less of spit shine. Same goes for FF4, though that does have its fans...

I didn't care for 4 all that much either, the Random Battle rate drove me bonkers. I loved what I played of 6 though (until it crashed :(), so yeah, even a less polished version should be really nice.
