i know, about freaking time, now i'll stop with all the "should i get x" questions. i'm sure people like asus will be happy. ;)

what i got:

core 2 duo e6300
2x512 ddr2 667mhz g.skill ram
gigabyte S775 GA-965P-S3
asus 7600 gt
some antec case which cost me a fair bit, i'll find a pic later

anyway, xp is installing rigth now, when it's done i'm going to move it into my room and hook it up to my lcd hdtv. :D i'm finally going to be able to start testing vista again and the latest build sounds rad.

super excited.

Congrats you bought the best motherboard + cpu combo evar. Unlock your cpu by disabling the EIST, CE1 and TM1 options in the hidden bios then overclock the FSB at your leisure.

Ctrl+F1 to unlock the hidden options in the bios.

If you google "ga-965P-S3 e6300 overclock" you'll see some of the results people got: you can reach a stable 3.4ghz on air cooling if you know what you're doing.

Great news!

Windows Vista Developments
27 August 2006

Recently Build 5536 of Windows Vista, dubbed the 'Pre-RC1 Build', was released to official testers and Paul Thurrott has a Brief Review of it. The good news is that it appears to be greatly improved over Vista Beta 2. Even better news is that according to Neowin, Build 5552 which is tipped to be the actual Release Candidate 1 should be out on Monday, and hopefully available to the public then or shortly thereafter.

I built my new PC, last week so I have been happy. :D

I love you, I really do !

Any other important things you can say, otherwise I'll just google and do some work myself. :)

Oh, and I'd say I know what I'm doing but I don't think I'll go for quite 3.4, somewhere 2.0ghz+ though. ;)

Thanks, and yes, RC1 is going to rock.. or it better. /shakes fist @ Microsoft

Also, any tips for overclocking my RAM (Though, on the sticker on the RAM the timings are 5-5-5-15) ? Or RAM in general ?

Edit: Okay, this thing freaking rocks.

I'm @ 2.45ghz (It's 1.86ghz stock) and I don't think the temperature has raised, at all.

Also, I'm looking for a good lightweight app to monitor CPU temps. I was thinking of going with Serious Samurize or something similar but that might be a bit overkill for the moment. So, something basic that sits in the taskbar or something, thanks. :)

Omg I didn't know that. Holy hell I'm buying that combo too for my new pc. That saves me about €260 \o/. Then I'll also go for the 7600GT and buy a good DX10 card next year... Woot another €130 off. And I'll also be able to get my hands on my dad's audigy 2 ZS platinum pro, so I don't have to get a new X-Fi. Omg shit another €110 off....

I just saved €500 on my new system, meaning that I can get it in 1.5 months if I don't spend a single euro :D :E \o/

That's about all I know really, the rest like you said can be found googling overclocker forums: especially ram timings.

As for a lightweight cpu temp soft, a geek friend of mine recommended me SpeedFan.

It's free and serves its' purpose

How much is the CPU + Mobo combo cost? Links + Price please! :D

Whoa hold on, after researching overclocking with the 2mb conroes (E6300 and E6400) I found out that the 2mb versions OC better than the 4MB versions (E6600 and E6700). Asus released a new BIOS update for their P5B Deluxe mainboard, which unlocks the multiplier for all conroes (Asus says that it even unlocks upwards for some chips!!!) http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2822

If this bios update works on the non-deluxe version, I'll get that one. It can get the E6300 to 3.68ghz, a 98% OC!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! That mainboard is only €15 more expensive than the Gigabyte one (here in Holland).

Wait, hold on, what? :|

So you can overclock a 1.86ghz CPU to 3.4ghz with just simple stock fans? For someone who is a complete brain fart when it comes to the latest CPUs, whats so good about the Intel Due 2s? Any articles to read?

Thanks Gunner. Edit: I tried it, it rocks.

I think the E6300 is around $195 US and the motherboard is $118.99 on newegg [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128017 ].

Someone else can better list what's so good about Core 2 Duo, so I'll let them do so. ;)

The Brick, you can't go wrong with either mobos, but if that other one isn't more expensive, get it, it was basically double the price at the stores around here. ;(

Grats :)

I'm joining the Conroe club soon, especially now it seems that EP2 (and I assumeTF2) benefits from dual core cpus.

Hah, I never read your sig till just than, nice setup ! ;)

I quickly bought an S-Video cable and I connected my pc to my LCD, it's pretty cool though I wish it had a higher res on my tv. :/

I'll hopefully be getting a 19" LCD for this computer for the desk soon.. like not a TV one, you all know what I mean.

Now get PhotoShop installed and make stuff :E
