Firearms: Source coming out this month

Is it the original guys? or the guys that supposedly stole the mod?

I never really followed that fiasco nor did i give a shit. Firearms 2 is dead as far as i know, anyway.

Can't say that that looks like fun.

Iirc, didn't the original Firearms focus on realism?
What's with this hip firing bullshit?

The original Firearms did the opposite of focus on realism, it was silly, poorly animated, and focused on having as many lead injecting killing devices as possible--it was also fun as hell. This looks to be following suit perfectly.

lol What realism? I think you have another mod in mind.

Frontline Force, maybe?

I have no idea, I played too many mods back then that I can't remember most of their names anymore.
Like, I could've sworn that Day of Defeat had bandages and parachuting at one point.

FA2 are the ones who "stole" the IP, FA:S has the original team's blessing (and a few members afaik). FA2 looks to be dead anyway, and never released despite being in development quite a bit longer than FA:S.

I'll give this a whirl, I never got too into Firearms (seemed a little bit too goofy to me) but maybe my tastes have changed!

Lucid, early DOD betas (pre-1.0) did have bandaging. They took it out cause I guess it was too complicated for people.

As long as this isn't another one of those super realistic shooters (Resistance and Liberation, Insurgency) I wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

I played Firearms religiously back in the day. It was absolutely one of my favorite mods during the golden years of Half-Life's mod scene. If this can recreate even a fraction of the original's magic, I'll be playing this for some time.

Can't say this was one of my favourites, but it had it's own charm and could be quite fun with friends. Those videos look pretty close to what I remember of it, so it should keep fans happy anyway. Might have to give it a go and see if it grows on me.

Anyway, call me when they make The Specialists: Source.

Looks alright, probably give it a bash.

Is it just me or did I just see guys shooting with bananas?

It had "para" maps as well during an early release, you played elimination style (think CS) and the guns were slightly different, and the allies always began by parachuting in. This gametype encouraged more team play, it was actually quite a blast, I was sad to see it removed.

I remember playing the original of this for hours on end with a couple of mates before. Probably won't even bother with the Source version.

I was going to say this but opted to say this :

How is the game play different from CS:S apart from having a shit ton of guns ?.

What are you people smoking? It doesn't play anything like Counter Strike.
Haven't you played the original?

For one, it doesn't use round based elimination. Instead Firearms focuses on capture-the-point style gameplay, features respawns and the major selling point is the excessive load out customization, where you can choose from a gazillion weapons, attachments and things like extra ammunition, kevlar, explosive devices, etc. The points you capture feature crates which restore ammunition and bandages, which are vital because you can bleed out, also some of them are respawn points, if I recall correctly. The map featured in this video seems to copy one of the original maps precisely so it brought me back to ye olde Firearms days.

Buh, amen. If this ever happens (which I'm sorry to say it almost certainly won't) I'll drop out of uni and play it full-time.

For all you guys who even mentioned CS in this thread, next time just shoot yourself in the face instead of posting about a remake of a mod you've clearly never played. Firearms is NOTHING AT ALL like CS.

QFT

It's a real shame that they didn't port The Specialists to the source engine.
I used to play it religiously, since day one. Action Half-Life 2 and the Distraction Mod are going nowhere and they both appear to be dead.

I never played the first one. I still think it looks a lot like CS. So is the point capturing thing like it was in the old DoD? Thats cool I guess. The load-out thing doesn't interest me at all. Sounds like CS but with more shit. Never really gave a damn about customizable load outs anyways.

"Oh look a Half-Life mod that incorporates modern weaponry somehow better compare it to CS." ;)

Right, as Krynn just pointed out, it's actually more akin to DoD in how it plays. Also instead of (mostly) smallish maps which are roughly equal in breadth and width, they have more of a 'winding tunnel' layout, like DoD or certain Team Fortress maps. Each team starts at one end and tries to push the other team back while defending their side. From memory the maps could get pretty big (or should I say long).

But yeah, one of the big 'selling points' of Firearms was (as the title implies) it's massive loadout of weaponry, so if you're not into that then you'll probably miss some of the appeal.

Can't say much for the gameplay, but I see from the video that it has +1 reloading and different animations for dry and partial reloads. Quite nice.

Hay awesome!!!

I forgot about the original firearms mod, many a happy nights spent on it. Hopefully it will be a small download I doubt people will bother going to this over other mods if it's huge.

Change your internet provider if you have a bandwidth cap. People who like the mod will download it regardless of its file size.

Yeah, that's a ridiculous assumption.
Mods like Age of Chivalry, Insurgency, and Pirates, Vikings, and Knights 2 are all over a gig in size and they have plenty of players.

The mod looks pretty fun, though.

Seems to play a bit like CS:S minus being round based and it seems to have bleeding in it... which is... odd to say the least, considering how fast paced it is.

It's the illegitimate child of Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat and Action Half-Life. :p

Man, that last video looked like fun (hi Dekstar, lol). Gonna have to check this out once some NZ servers pop up.
