Is freakin FAST!!! ... at least compared to the way FF2 performed. Anyone else notice this?

english/US windows installer here

english/US linux here

UK windows installer here

UK linux here

note- it'll overwrite your FF2 installation, which is a bit annoying because a lot of my addons aren't compatible yet.

These ARE compatible:
Adblock Plus
FlashGot
FoxyProxy
NoScript

There AREN'T yet:
Adblock Filterset.G Updater
Fasterfox
Firebug
Foxmarks
Google Reader Notifier
IE Tab
Tabbrowser Preferences
YSlow
Noia 2.0 (theme)

Reviews say that FF3 consumes more memory with common page viewing, but less at extremely high loads, compared to FF2.

Also, note that this is the first beta release.

As this was the later thread, I'd like to resurrect it *plays resurrection card*

I've noticed the third Beta is out now, and also like to note that it did not overwrite my Firefox 2 installation.

It's quite nifty, but the toolbar buttons look a bit cheap and slightly too IE7 for me. The dropdown box at the top is rather weird, but the pre-installed spellchecker is nice :)

As with everything, there are some good points and some bad points.

I love the automatic address search when using the address bar.

Hah, indeed, I didn't notice that before.

The new "star" in the address bar can be good, but it's a bit annoying to use at the same time.

I've been using it at work, because I have around 12 browsers open at a time, many with around 10 tabs, all left open for days on end. (Virtual desktops are my friend.) FF2 would take up nearly a gig, while FF3 is much nicer. (Of course, I think that system has 4GB in it, so it's not an absolute necessity.)

The only thing that I don't like is that they switched the HOME button from the Nav. toolbar to the bookmarks toolbar. I always disable the bookmarks toolbar but I miss my home button. Oh well. alt+Home

Is the beta 3 newer or older than the beta 1, or whats the deal because I googled firefox 3 and I found the firefox 3 b3 download on their website, but I want to make sure I get the newest beta version before I install? Thanks.

Beta 3 is the most recent.

Out of everything, it looks like they heavily upgraded the spell check, which is really nice because before it really sucked. If I had misspelled "reelly" it would give me shit like raspberry.

OK, I just wanted to check, I also just realized that this whole "Firefox 3" thread got started in November of last year, had I been more observant I probably would have realized that beta 3 is newer. Thanks for the info though.
Also after installing It doesn't appear that there are any forward and back buttons, sort of a weird design choice in my opinion.

You can correct that by right clicking on the toolbar and selecting customise. You can then drag and drop buttons anywhere including the home button back to its original place...

Ah that helps. Thanks.

I looked in the customize option but I didn't see HOME listed. I didn't have the bookmarks bar up and didn't know you could drag from one toolbar to the other.

So if I get this I will still be able to use FF2 as it is if I have to?

I installed it (and it did overwrite firefox 2 for me) out of love for firefox.

And, yikes.

It takes longer to load up and crashed within 20 seconds of running, no matter how many or few sites I was using, no matter what those sites were. I actually had to go through IE to download version 2 again, before I could even post this.

Thank God it's just a beta.

I haven't had any problems yet, besides the fact that when I switch from using firefox2 to using firefox3 I takes longer for each to initially start up. So due to that I'm considering just uninstalling firefox2 and using the beta, hopefully the future updates will overwrite the beta to make things a bit easier/seamless. On a side note I like the new default button design, that is now that I figured out how to get the forward and back buttons to show up.

I had this problem also but it seems to me a problem that a few people have had with having Firefox 2 and the Firefox 3 beta both installed mostly under vista although people with xp have reported it also...

If you have your old shortcuts, it should be fine. I can't use Launchy to load FF2, but I can use my the desktop shortcut I still have.

Yeah, the new beta doesn't overwrite your old FF installation like the first one did... but for me it still seems to overwrite some profile settings every time I switch back and forth - it keeps checking for the same addon updates, and whenever I switch back to FF2 I start getting the prompts for when you go from https to http and sending encrypted information on form posts, etc.

I like beta 3 enough (and it seems stable enough) that I'd use it full time, except I absolutely NEED FireBug for work, and they haven't updated it to be compatible with beta 3 yet :(

EDIT: Nevermind that... I'm 100% FF3!
