"With Firefox market share reaching a substantial level, is the popular Internet browser becoming a security nightmare for IT administrators? George Ou takes a look at the hard numbers. From the article: 'From March 2005 to September 2005 10 vulnerabilities were published for Microsoft Internet Explorer, 40 for Mozilla Firefox. In April-September timespan there were 6 exploits for MSIE, 11 for Firefox. Conclusion? As you can see, the facade that Firefox is the cure to the Internet Explorer security blues is quickly fading. It just goes to prove that any popular software worth hacking that has security vulnerabilities will eventually have to deal with live working exploits. Firefox mostly managed to stay under the radar from hackers before April of 2005."

Only thing I gotta say is, I told ya so.

Dosent mean I'll stop using it however.

hopefully this is nothing that firefox fanboys didnt realize... same with all of apples software.

I never relied on Firefox for security any way. I just liked the extensions and features.

who here has actually been exploited from their browser? lol oh noes!!11

Even though Firefox has it's flaws, so dies IE. So, it's logical to choose whichever out of the two is safer; that is why a lot of you choose FireFox. I, myself stick with IE because I am too lazy to make a transition.

Well Firefox has had one major release, Internet Explorer has had 6. Not only that but you've got to look at the severity of the exploits to make a proper judgement.

Surprisingly, Firefox is as secure as I think.

I think it's more so than IE.

Microsoft has been known to wait half a year before admitting a vulnerability, wich means you never really know with them. With firefox, exploit alerts are available as soon as they are aware of a problem. Maybe that's why they have more known exploits lately...

Also what mortiz said.

not surprised. firefox has become very popular. popular software gets exploited.

Quite obvious really.

I wouldn't be surprised if a crippling software loophole in some random section of the source code was revealed by hackers, who start a mass exploit marathon that deletes all the files of one's computer.

I still use Firefox. I'm behind a router so it wouldn't matter much anyway.
I use firefox for the speed, extensions, themes, and regular releases and fixes, rather than Meh..

Firewall wont protect you against most browser based exploits...

Same

Even if it has more holes in it's security, Firefox is safer because it's not a direct window to your operating system like IE is with XP.

yes, but how many of those flaws were from outdated versions of firefox.

I've only ever relied on Firefox for tabed browsing and that stuff. Not security. Anyway, this was inevitable.

I honestly gave up looking for "security" with anything in this world. Gotta rely upon yourself to make things "Secure" :P

It may have had more exploits, but they get sorted pretty quick, unlike IE..

Exactly. It's the old "Linux is more secure than Windows" debate. Why would hackers/exploiters want to exploit Linux when barely anyone uses it. The more users Firefox gets the less safe it's going to be.

That post really reminded me of Urban Dead.

But anyway. You're too right.

Maybe not, but Firefox seems more streamlined to me, it's not connected directly to my operating system, it doesn't randomly reset its homepages, fill with spam, it seems to block way more pop-ups than IE... it's great, really.

I used opera one on a university computer. Half the screen was taken up by opera and the other half the actual web-pages.

I have Opera for my cell phone.. I wish i had firefox on my phone!

Opera is better for phones because it has a zoom function.
