Firingsquad HL2 Performance Preview 2

They mentioned that the 256mb video cards will run HL2 faster, I wish we could get some benchmarks so I could decide if the 256mb 9800 pro is worth the extra c-note.

(read my comments on the atricle, Im "WTF")

Half-Life 2 doesn’t take advantage of Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology nor AMD’s 64-bit extensions in Athlon 64/Opteron. The jury is still out on which CPU architecture it prefers.

I got a 3.06Ghz with Audigy 2 and it Hyper-Threads and its very, very bad, chips and makes gay noises in most games... i think its a good thing it doesn't use it, but... i dont know. :D

Well, that was rather depressing to read.

Im assuming your like me and will need to upgrade? Relax a bit. With Dx7 or DX8 we will probably get 60FPs with our 2ghz and Geforce3's, it just wont be so purdy

:dork:

far out, sif i wasnt feeling bad enough about my shat rig and lack of cash. I gotta stop haning around in these l337 system forums.

I hope your right :) .

Still, I'm planning on getting a Radeon 9600PRO to replace my puny GF4 ti4200.

Join the club, dude.

Clearly you’re going to want a 3.0GHz+ or AMD equivalent for optimum performance, even if you’re running one of the mainstream cards such as the RADEON 9600 PRO.

;(

My poor poor p4 2 ghz and geforce 4. Oh well, $500 should just about get me running smooth. Probably run out to the store after work and pick up the crapola.

woot.
Just upgraded the Board and Proc. Crammed 512 more memory in also. Will have to wait till Oct to get the 256 VC board. Yes kinda bragging BUT have been saving up since I heard about this game coming and this is the only time I will splurge like this.

It's called running with Low or Medium details, guys.

Yes, but whats the point of buying Halflife 2 if in the end its going to look like Halflife 1 in order to be playable?

Stop exaggerating ;)
Low-medium wont look like HL1 at all. most people should be able to play with Medium-high details.
Seriously. Anyone with 2ghz+ and a Geforce 4+ should stop worrying.

I'm planning on being able to play it at 800 * 600 on at least Medium details on my 1.4ghz t-bird, 256mb DDR and a GF 4 ti 4200.

I think I'll be quite alright.

and next year I'll be doing myself up a brand new computer.

Yeah but it is hard enough to get money out of my wife. So when you get/have the chance to go all out on something you really like it feels good.

Looks like I might need to get more ram....but I'll wait until the game releases just to be sure.

Does anybody know the resolutions of the Bink Videos?
