recommend 8800gt, 8500 won't get you anywhere with today's games.
 
What are you talking about DEATHMASTER, I'm doing just fine with my 7600GTS.
 
the 7600 isn't the 8500, and if that was a typo meant to say 8600gts then yes, the 8600 is loads better than the 8500 as well.

I was just saying that the 7600GTS plays all midlevel gaming perfectly well, including Source. An 8500 will get you plenty far with "today's games".
 
The 8600GTS performs just barely better then a 7600GT, most of the time. The 8500GT 512mb performs about half as good as the 8600GTS.

If anyone here has a 8600GTS or 7600GT, benchmark it and divide the number you get by 2, then you'll have an idea of how a 8500GT would perform.

GPU memory size matters, but mostly when comparing similar level cards. A 512mb 7600GT isn't better then a 256mb 7800GT, for example.
