Finally got around to purchasing a graphic tablet. Never used one before, and it feels quite weird having to look ahead at the monitor while drawing.
The tablet is a Wacom intous3 A4.

Anyway here are some sketches I've done so far...

First I tried with the program I usually use, Corel Photo Paint. However it renders the brush strokes too slowly providing a frustrating experience... Next I tried the software which comes with the tablet, Corel Painter. Tried it, the user interface similar to to that of Photoshop pissed me off, so I ended up using Art Rage for the images I posted here...

Painters good, don't give up on it. You need to carry out brush tracking firstly though (under preferences), that way the pen/pencil strokes will respond to the pressure (if you use photoshop adjusting the flow of a brush achieves a similar effect). I say this because your drawings are too flat at present because there is no contrast in the tonal values you are putting down in the strokes themselves.

I gave it a try with the pressure sensor setup. Thing is when I pres harder with the pen the strokes are thicker, but I would prefer if the pressure would alter the opacity of the stroke rather than the thickness...

EDIT:

Looks like it's specific to each tool...

On the images I posted here I used a tool that simulates a Marker, so that's why all the strokes are the same. When I tried a crayon, it does proper shading based on pressure.

If varies across the media (painter is a media replicator if nothing else). If your using chalk it effects the pressure, if you use paint it effects the distribution. Try it with pencil.

See ;)

Takes a while to get used to. Personally I'm a big fan of the chalk.
