Well I went to my first LAN event at the weekend...It was fun but an enlightening experience...For the first time I understood some of the personalities that are represented in web comics and jokes...

Met people who are really into their RPGs, CS, Computer Technicalities and everything...Guy beside me kept saying "woot" if he killed somone or just muttering "boom, headshot". Got really moody when losing or when he died though!

Another guy had his computer named and listed ALL the specs to me...

Got to play some games that I had never before such as Battlefield (I'm quite terrible at flying anything it seems :) ), Day of Defeat (which was VERY good). Also got games of CS (which I still hate, and suck at...), Call of Duty 2 (which I improved at but don't like the Deathmatch mode of - a bit pointless...), Flatout (4 player Demolition Derby :D ) and Unreal Tournament 2004...

A fun 30-hour LAN...

D: D: How far can you stick RAM in your ass?! FTW!?

Glad you had fun, lans are fun.

It was wierd actually - one guy called himself VegetaFH1 so thought of you ^ - he pronounced it more like Fa-Hee-Ta (I thought of the mexican food :x ) and another called Some1 (I thought of TheSomeone)...Maybe I should get out more...

So how do you pronounce it Vegeta?

Hmm...I'm stuck in the error of my ways Ve-gay-tah :) Sorry... or alternatively Veg-e-tah...

Either way I'm stuck :D

Ve-gay-tah, as in... gay?
Well that's nice.

Alternatively, Veg-e-ta-bles. Glad you had fun. I've never been to a big LAN, but have been curious.

I've been to a few LANs at a friend's house. They're always fun- lots of CSS and Quake III Arena, with some airsoft thrown in to spice things up, and plenty of Chinese food.

I had my first lan around 96-97 in my garage with a couple of friends (I think we was 9 or 10 people). Great fun! Made maps for q1 to play on and stuff like that. I'm not a huge fan of lans anymore, mostly because all the lans are gamerlans and it ruins the whole atmosphere the lan/demoparties had :/

It's still fun to meet up with some friends and have a shootout once in a while though.

I held a couple of LANs once to test my old sourceforts maps.

oh, and Vegeta, I pronounce your name "Veh-JAY-ta"

I've been to one LAN that wasn't at a LAN-center. I wasn't allowed to bring my computer, so I brought my Gamecube instead, and nobody wanted to play Smash Bros or Super Monkey Ball with me ;(

2nd LAN!!!

Still disorganised and marred by the theft of mice! Scumbags!!!
Had a Quake3 tournament though and it opened my eyes a little...

I always play as a hunter - find opponent and battle it out BUT my opponent was more of a camper - Hung around by a mega-health! Lost 12-7 in the end but it was close...So in tournament matches, does it become ok to hog these areas...Is camping actually a legitimate strategy?!

I love LANS. However all the gamers are leaving town, all my gamers i have grown up with is moving to other countries or cities :( now there is no PC gamers left, im all alone! No more LANs!!!!!! WHAT AM I GONA DO?!?!?

However, one of my gamers feelt sry for me so hes coming down from Germany for a 2 week LAN with me, lots of beer drinking and games :)

A local LAN center (which actually just recently closed, since Craig, the guy who ran it, is moving) held lockins every week or two. Usually from 9 PM to 4 AM, with some longer ones (9 PM to 10 AM). More recently, me and some friends have been doing small-scale LANs with just 2-4 of us (mainly limited by the fact that the house we do it at is tiny).

1v1 Quake? Ahaha those are the stupidest tournaments. Deathmatch is about more than 2 players people. 64 player Quake 3 at 1am is where is where it's at.
