While watching the new CS:S video on gamespot, I noticed that when you die, the camera flies backward from your body to show your figure falling to the ground in the new ragdoll fashion. This camera-leaves-body feature is just like the current one for CS. Sure, this allows you to watch the ragdoll physics in awe, but you will be able to see enough of this as you kill the enemy.

I suggest that after you are killed, you continue to view the world from a first-person perspective. Your view would move in accordance to your ragdoll body, and very quick-like the contrast between light and dark would grow. So after say 1/2 to 1 second, you see darkness with blurs of light where the lightest spots on the screen were, and then your screen would fade all the way to black. Also, all sound would become more and more muffled until you cannot hear a single thing. After this, you would continue to view with the normal spectator mode.

This would add more immersion to the game. It is the one thing I noticed lacking from CS today when I was playing it. I think this would be a nice, new feature. What do you think?

Sounds cool! Are the graphics appearing to look as good in CS:S as they do in HL:2?

Nice Avatar by the way ;)

Yeah, the graphics are amazing. I read that the physics will be less accurate in CS:S, but you can't tell.

Why thank you, I made it myself :smoking: . I'm guessing you're a fan.

The purpose of the pull-back after death is to show you the enemy, not yourself dieing.

There used to be a server option which would enable fade to black upon death, but you couldn't see anything after the fade. Not sure if they would impliment what you suggest but it's interesting if a little morbid IMHO.

I find this funny, because in a lot of servers the camera does a top-down view focused on your dead body and I can't see where my killer is hiding. I wouldn't mind a "kill cam" feature like in Call of Duty. But, I'm sure this won't happen. I don't know, I would sacrifice not being able to see my killer in order to have this new feature.

An absolutely great idea. I've often thought that myself ever since playing CoD. It releaves the "OMG YOU F'ING HAXOR!" ranting since you can see how the enemy killed you (on the other hand it can just add to your resolve that the person who killed you is cheating). I think this should become staple in all FPS. Did they copyright it?

i would rather see myself die in third person.

in first person, if you get tossed by a nade, things will get pretty loopy for awhile and you can easily lose yourself. its just more amusing to see a body flopping around.

The fact that the camera went in 3rd person view is not what bothered me; what bothered me is the clipping that followed. I think it's in the gamespot video, when he died, the camera pushed backward, but not completely, so you see the interior of the body. It was really ugly.

I hope they fix that.

That would be great. With all those effects when you die.

enemy> :sniper: :x <me======> :O :LOL: (looking at effects)

To bad no one can explain to valve how this looks for real. would be cool.
hope they add this to options.

nice illustration KingPing :E

I see you enjoy making graphs like that (your sig) haha

Its cool though...so propz to Ping

I don't reall know why it matters if you "lose yourself." I think it would look cool and it would feel like your more a part of the game.

Yeah, this bothered me as well. All the great graphics sort of don't matter when you still have these little problems.

You know what would be cool? Taking from the kill cam idea . . . after you die and go through the sequence I described, the camera could leave your body and view everything in a glowy blue-tinted way, and the camera would zoom out so it shoes your body and your killer, and then it would sort of rewind quickly to say 1 1/2 seconds before your death, and play back your death from that camera angle in slow motion. :D And I'm sure if Valve saw this suggestion they would put it in the game!

I would prefer something similar to what colin4444 said, but maybe you get to move the camera around (like in halflife when you die) for your last final seconds, just so you can watch your allies struggle on from a realistic perspectve.

or even better, i would like a system where when you die, the above happens (and the vision is blurry / noises muffled) but you can still see well enough. Also it would be cool if the rag doll head moved as well :) Then when you click the moushe, he goes "UUuUuuRrRrgghh..." and the screen fades to black, then it either goes to spectator cam, or a COD style "killcam" replay.

EDIT: the ------ are clouds. You dident see that? Had to add them. Or else it wouldent worke.(open spaces dissapair)

They certainly could add some cool effects when you die considering your FPS matters less when you're dead. A blur/glow/color effect would be fine, imo. I just want to see where I got shot from and to be able to see what's happening with my allies. So, it shouldn't take any longer to go into spectator mode.

look i can see my ally!

i was bored

That sounds like a great idea colin, but the only bad thing that comes to mind is how dizzy you could get after a little bit. I'd love to see how it would work out though.

I wan't my life to flash before my eyes in CSS, I want the server to randomly calculate where I was born and all that, so when I die after 5 hours of processing and 2 minutes of playing I can see it all.

Yeah, you might have to keep some dramamine pills next to the computer if you have a weak stomach.

Haha, I actually thought about this, except the "life" that flashed before your eyes would just be the last 2 minutes of your CS experience. That would be so lame, er, awesome!

I personally like it just the way it is

Sounds like a good idea
Better than what I expected! I was expecting someone going on about blood going down the screen in a James Bond fashion :D

Dude... that would be awesome as a client-side mod, if it could be done. (which I doubt unless supported directly by Valve) It would be so old school! Ha! I'd put it on just for laughs.

It would be cool if when you die by getting shot in the chest you could see your blood spout out of your mouth over the screen while your lying face up in a first person veiw. And with the alraedy stated muffed sound and soon after darkness, then after 5 seconds you could go into normall spectator mode.
